Xbox Update Help

a friend of mine updated his xbox 360 the thing was he had the extreme firmware installed onto the DVD drive is there a way of formatting the drive and installing the normal ms dashboard if so how do you go about connecting the hard drive to your PC? is the drive a normal IDE connection?

you can format your drive but it wont matter, the dashboard isnt stored there

wheres the dashboard stored? is it flashed to ROM memory?
