Laser Pot Question
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:30:00 AM »

I have heard the left pot is for DVDs and the right pot is for CDs, so I'd leave it alone.

PLEASE TAKE THE ABOVE ANSWER WITH A GRAIN OF SALT AS I AM NOT SURE ITS TRUE.

However, I'd adjust your laser back to around 3.0k Ohm and see how it reads once you get the chip installed correctly. Only do as low as you need to read the discs reliably.

When you lower the kOhm on the pot, it ups the powre to the laser and could wear it out more quickly.

Oops... should have added that the backup that gives the read error will play for about 20 minutes, and then give the old 'Can't read disc' error.

you are correct. one is for DVD reading and one is for CD reading. only adjust the one for DVD reading.

for the guys having disc read error 20minutes into the game. does it happen at the same point everytime? if so, its a bad disc-bad burn-bad source.  I'd say clean the original, re-rip, reburn at 2.4x on decent media.

every one i have done (beit samsung or hitachi...different firmware versions) all seem to read memorex, sony, fuji, verbatim fine.
