Xbox 360 Just Died. What To Do Next?
« on: January 11, 2007, 10:31:00 PM »

Well normally I would call MS up and have them replace it but the firmware has been updated and of course the warranty has been voided. I dont know how much it would cost to repair it but I would assume its cheaper than buying a core bundle? I am afraid to send it to MS incase they can tell its been modded via the firmware.

Buddy, if you've modded your 360, MS won't touch it.

But, you could do what I did back in the day when I tried modding my original Xbox. It was my first time soldering anything, and I kinda killed it. So I put it all back together, packed it up nice and neat in its box, and took it to Wal-Mart. They let me exchange it, no questions asked. Of course, I killed my second one, too. That one went to K-Mart, where I told them of the unfortunate lightening strike that hit my apartment.

But I think they'll be more diligent in inspecting a 360 when exchanging it. I've heard that with more people trying to mod various consoles, employees are instructed to take the system out of the box and look for anything suspicious. But if you've got no other options, give it a shot.

Well the only way it has been modded is via the firmware thats it. No soldering or anything was involved. IN order to return it I would prob need a recipe which i dont have of course (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Not to encourage any immoral behavior, but you WILL have a receipt... from the core system that you buy.  I'm sure this action would constitute criminal fraud.

If you're getting one of the ubiquitous 3-light errors, the heat gun is your panacea.  Easier than that and less invasive is the toothpick shim, which many swear by and is frankly so easy that everyone should at least try it.

NO discussions on how to commit fraud.
