Streaming Files From A Pc To The Xbox 360
« on: January 08, 2007, 01:36:00 PM »

I'm having trouble adding transferring pictures/music/videos to my 360 from my PC. I don't know how to add the 360 to its list of hardware to share info with. The file sharing device I'm using is Windows Media Connect 11. So, how could I get this working? Any help is appreciated.

It won't add them to the hard drive.  It will stream them over your network or from a removable storage device.

I never said that it would. I said that my Xbox 360 isn't listed in the media sharing option in WMP11. If its not on that list, I can't add it to the hardware that it shares files with. That's really the main problem, my 360 not recognizing my PC and Vica Versa. By the way, my Xbox Live works just fine, so I don't think its a networking problem.

It's Windows Media Player. I used to have WMC, but when I downloaded WMP11, it replaced its function.

wow that was a profound statement.. i use wmp11 just fine.. gimme a little bit to look at my wmp11 cause it is tricky... plus you need to share the folders you plan on using on 360
edit: in wmp11 click on file, then add to library, then click on my folders and those of others that i can access, then click add, then add your shared folders that have your music, wmv video and photos.. then click ok and you should be good

Well if you can get WMP 11 to work your one of the lucky ones. For most people clicking on Library and Share my media does absolutely nothing. So once again, when that doesn't work try the media player i suggested.

im with wingfan on this one.
WMP 11 doesnt do anything at all. they still dont recognizer eachother.
I had little luck using WMC and then it stopped working so i got WMP 11 and that did nothing.
tversity is a sweet lil prog. go with it.

Why not use Windows Media Connect?
It is, literally, a CINCH (well... however you spell it).  Plus it is what I use myself.
All you do is add folders to scan for music/videos/pictures and the computer will auto-add things to be shared and... share them.
I'd post a tutorial... but it's not even needed, it's THAT easy.

I had more problems with Media Connect than I EVER have with WMP11.

Here's something that might help when it comes to using WMP11 successfully:

Right-click the tool bar, and select "options".
Select the "library" tab, and then "configure sharing".
Turn-on the 360 (make sure it's on your network).  It will soon appear in your device listing.  Click "allow" on the 360.

Now turn to your 360.  Go to the media blade where you can see any PC connected to your network.  Delete ANY AND ALL PREVIOUS MEDIA CONNECTIONS.  You want to start the connection fresh, so any old set-up needs to be gone.  Now go through the process of allowing your PC connection, using WMP11 instead of WMC.

I was pissed at first, too, because I thought WMP11 was garbage.  But I did the "fresh install" and it worked like a charm, and has worked perfectly since (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well if you don't click on "Share my media" then your going against the instructions provided by Microsoft to configure the xbox 360 to recognize your computer. Maybe you should read the instructions provided by the manufacturer before you post. It may have worked flawlessly for you but there are Lots of computer literate people out there who just can't get WMP 11 to work.  All i'm saying is that if you follow the instructions to configure WMP 11 to recognize your 360 and it doesn't work repeatedly, there are other programs out there that work much better.
