Buffing Out Surface Scratches
« on: January 04, 2007, 02:41:00 PM »

Alright, so after having my 360 for just over a month I finally screwed up my first disc (a bran new copy of Project 8).  I didn't move the 360 while the disc was playing or anything, but I think it was on a slight angle or something from my carpet (maybe a few degrees... I didn't notice it until the event... I had been playing for about a week with it like that with no other problems).  Anyway, I managed to yank the 360's plug which was within arms reach of where I was sitting fairly quickly.  The disc does have some scratches, but better than some of the pictures I've seen from when the console was first introduced.  My question is, what would be the best way to "fix" this problem (if it's fixable).  I know that surface scratches which circle the disk are very bad.  I've heard that toothpaste can be used (which makes sense).  I'm wondering if that's the best home method, and how exactly to go about it (what to apply it with... pattern to use... etc...).  Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit, I should also add that I did read the sticky.  I was assuming that MS wouldn't replace something that was probably my fualt.  However, should I try this method anyway?

Call MS$ and demand a replacement. Don't give up, eventually you will get something out of it.

and if you dont want to do that,
then take furniture polish. shake well, Spray a light covering over the disc, wipe ion straight from the center out.

Where did you buy the game? I had a similar situation with a copy of GRAW. I took it back to EBGames and they gave me a new copy right there. It usualy isnt an issue as long as you have your recipt and you exchange it for the same product...
