Xbox Hd Player And 1080p
« on: January 01, 2007, 08:59:00 PM »

I have had my HD player since Launch and I'm still waiting to see that full 1080P from Microsoft. My TV doesn't have a VGA input so all I can do is wait for either a HDMI cable to come out (I heard impossible) or a firmware to make 1080P play over the componet hookup.

Could someone please make it clear to my why the Xbox can play games wonderfully at 1080P but only 1080i with the Hd player add on? I mean it only makes sense to me that this is only a matter of software since the xbox can play 1080P games.

Yes, it's definitely possible for the Xbox 360 to output HD-DVD movies at 1080p resolution via component cables.

However, because there are copyright provisions set by the CSS and AACS that limit HD-DVD playback over unprotected analog connections, it's unlikely that 1080p-over-component viewing will ever be allowed.

This just dosen't make any sense.. You can't get 1080p over component with hd-dvd, because they're scared ppl will make bootlegs. Tho they allow it over VGA, which is superior to component in quality, while still having zero so called "protection" (ie: HDCP). This is just crazy.

I hope this gets fixed, since my 1080p prjector and xbox 360 VGA don't like each other. Good that I noticed this thread, as I was going to grab the HD-DVD drive this week. Guess that's not happening.

1080p and 1080i are virtually identical when running at below 30FPS on a 1080p screen, I bet you couldn't even tell the difference. Solution=use 1080i.

Man for 38 I must have great peepers because I can sure tell the difference when the xbox is running in 1080i vs 1080P (P stands for Perfecto)
