Hardware/drive Problem?
« on: December 31, 2006, 04:15:00 PM »

Alright, my 360 has been freezing up on me quite a bit. Mostly with 2 or 3 brand new games. It doesnt choose to freeze until I'm playing it a good 15 minutes or so. I am assuming that this might be a DVD or Laser problem? I am using a Toshiba-Samsung drive. I don't play burned games, only retail. Would upgrading to a Hitachi drive maybe solve my freezing problems?

I need to know how to solve this as Microsoft does not give any answers. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thank you.

Heat seems to be the "numero uno" thing on the list that will give ya lockups like that. If it loads the game up and you can play it's probably not the DVD drive causing you the headache, though they can be picky from time to time. If ya don't wanna open your 360 up place some more fans around it and get some more airflow going into the thing and see if that makes any difference at all first.

The thing is I already have a small housefan and the 360 Intercooler on it... Thanks for the suggestion though. So I should assume its a heating problem then? Any other ways to keep it from overheating? Any tricks?

I'd take that Intercooler off the back of your 360 if I were you. That pass thru power plug isn't the best thing and has already caused some issues with 360s doing funky things and I saw a pic of one that dang near completely melted. Unplug it and have a go at playing and see how it acts then.
