Smb Problems...help!
« on: June 27, 2004, 12:25:00 PM »

I am having problems getting my shares to work with smb in XBMC (2004-06-03 release).  Everything I've tried comes back with an "access denied" error.

I am a member of a domain, so I'm trying to access my shares like so:

<bookmark>
   <name>250gb E Drive</name>
<path>smb://MyDomain;Adminstrator:password@MyComputerName/e$/</path>
</bookmark>

I haven't a clue as to why this doesn't work, as these shares are perfectly accessable to any computer on the internal LAN within or outside of this domain.  I am able to ping my xbox from any of my computers.  I'm running an SNTP server that the xbox can connect to and grab the current time from.  I can ftp to the xbox, the weather in XBMC works, as does the news feed.

Any hints, suggestions, or smart remarks?

Yes, it's the standard admin share for a drive.  DRIVELETTER$ is how to access it.  I also tried creating a shared folder and accessing it instead of the admin drive share, but the same problem exists...

Believe it or not, I had a similar problem until i removed the drive designation from the share. For some reason, XBMC couldn't find E:/Xbox files but it had no trouble finding the folder when i dropped the E:/.

I've created a share called videos and tried to access it by mycomputer/videos, which, by all means, should work.  I can access this share from any computer on my network; just not from the xbox.  Odd...

I'm Considering taking a computer out of the domain and trying to access it.  Is this a domain issue?

Well, I finally got the network shares to work.  There is a tag called WORKGROUP where i entered in my domain, and ditched the domain part in the smb path.  Who woulda thought?
