Hi,
For fun I bought a faulty 360 off Ebay just to play around with......just the motherboard & key. The fault was explained only as a "freezing problem".
Under a separate auction I bought a Hitachi Type 47 drive.....as luck would have it, it was the same seller and he told me in actual fact the drive I bought was from that motherboard.
So, after wiring both fans to +12v permanent I powered it up....and it booted just fine. I stuck in an original game and I get an error, something like "please insert an Xbox 360 disc"...and listed under a few different langauges. I tried the usual disc cleaning but the same problem over and over. I didn't notice any error code.
I tried a Movie Dvd and it plays just fine.
I happen to have a spare Samsung MS25 drive so I flashed it with the key and the Type 47 tag (so it pretends to be a Type 47). Plugged it in and I get exactly the same problem as the Hitachi drive.
1. Any ideas?
2. Does anyone know what error I would expect if I had inserted the wrong key?
PS. I tried reading the Hitachi drive to make sure the key was ok......but for some reason I get an error with Toolbox (Type 78 drives & Samsungs are no problem....!).
Ian.
