Having a console that's quiet is noticeable. All you need to do is try a "slow" firmware to see how much that helps. Also if its cheaper to make means it can sell for less too, I think people would notice that too :-D

m$ have stated that they wont drop the price, so that is a mute point...

and the power and heat reduction is neglible. it has been sensationalised soo much it is almost funny. you will not notice any difference.

m$ will only go to this becasue it will be cheaper, but it will not be passed on straight away. m$ is a company after all

Ms will probably take the time to prevent the firmware-hack with a cpu check on v1.1 x360 consoles.

This is the question I'm interested in knowing more about.

Thanks,

Iv read in some places ATI/AMD who ever they are now are working on 45nm gfx chip maybe M$ are waiting for somthing like that to come out and sort there overheating problem in one go!

i was reading of this too actually and it is projected to some time on 07 but you got to it first ;-)

too bad this change will make bugger-all difference to anyone. yeah it will use less power and be a bit cooler, but it will not be by any difference that any one can tell. its a bit of a non-event really
I'm not sure how many of you follow PC Processors. My last processor was an AMD 2500+ Barton. When they went to the 90nm technology in my newest 64bit processor the temp difference was huge. The Barton ran consistantly near 140º F and the 90nm 64bit 3200+ runs around 104º. Now imagine the Xbox's current 90nm being reduced to almost half. That's a huge difference to come. This will be one of the best things to happen to the 360 when it comes.

AMD recently released 65nm versions of their latest CPUs (or at least sent the press some test modells I'm not quite sure about it). I don't know about the temperature but there was a significant drop in power usage. So yes, it will matter for us (the buyers) that in the (near?^^) future Xbox360 CPUs will be made using a different fabrication process.

I personally wouldn't wait for the new CPUs to show up in stores though (I already own an Xbox360 since a month after launch anyway wink.gif). There are some really good games to enjoy. And the current version does have it's problems but it's not a "bad" product! I think about upgrading to a new Xbox360 with 65nm CPU (and hopefully GPU ^^) and afterwards sell my old console. But I wait and see what effect the new CPUs will really have. After all it's still up to MS how many things they want to change and in what ways they want to change them.

So its just a CPU change? If so, how hard will it be to upgrade the old CPU by ourseleves like on a regular PC?

Erm pretty damn hard lol unless you find it easy to solder to something like 400 tiny pins underneath a chip.....They arent socketed like normal PC CPUs so you cant upgrade or change them.

What should happen is that the GPU should be made using the 65nm process.....because most of the origional overheating problems were due to the GPU overheating. Maybe in the v1.1 M$ could put a bettter heat sink on the GPU.

Well my AMD chip has 939 pins under it, so it may be about twice that many on the 360. blink.gif

Xbox 360 CPU has 899 pins (30x30 with one pin missing)

The GPU has like 12 hundred something pins
