Converting Na 120 Volt For 220 European Type Power Consumption
« on: December 22, 2006, 10:19:00 PM »

I will be moving across the Atlantic on January 1st for work and am very anxious to continue playing my XBOX 360 with friends and family.   Now where I'm living does have the 220 Volt Power structure that most places besides the US seem to employ.

My question is this.  What is the easiest, safest and most cost effective way to allow my 360 to properly run overseas.  I contacted XBOX (with a fake name of course) on the phone and they told me I would void my warranty and destroy my machine.  According to them 99% of people blow theirs up.  I'm sure that includes the percentage that call in to tell them its working fine and to remind them to void their warranty  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I'm wondering if its going to be ok to use a step-up transformer (with the appropriate maximum watts) or if I'm going to be able to just hook up a European power source.  They wouldn't say if they were compatible with my machine or not.  They just told me that Japans power pack was not.  I'm not going to Japan.

Thanks for all your help.

P.S. I'm actually going to Israel to train some people... and they don't actually sell XBOX there. So obtaining the appropriate materials is also a concern.

You should be able to find a 240 > 110 Volt STEPDOWN converter easily in a good electrical retailer. Talk to the people you are working with for a good place to go

You need one that can handle the load from the 360 which I dont know, but make a note of the numbers printed on the lable.

Another options thats equally workable is to see if you can get an EU power adaptor through EBay from a busted 360. Thats another option. I did it the other way moving from Europe to the US and I use a US power brick with the EU console with no issues at all.  I belive the PSU I brought with me was 120-240V compatable but I dont have it to hand to check.

Finally you can use a PC PSU if all else fails.

I guess a European Power brick will just work fine, i'm using an European Power brick on a US system and it work just fine, both the US and European Xbox aquire equal Voltage and amps, if your planning to get an step down converter i'll suggest you buy it in the States, cause it's probably cheaper over there, at least it's so here in Norway compared to the US.
