Dvd Laser Question
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:20:00 AM »

Hi guys.

I have a  Hitachi dvd rom and lately I've had a lot of probs. Unreadable disc, open tray (when a disc is in) and insert 360 disc (even thou it is) errors everywhere.
This has been going on for about 2 months now. I can get a game eventuallly working if I load/eject a lot of times.

The lens has been cleaned many times and still get the same. This drive is also unflashed.

Now for my question:
I bought a replacement lens (SF-HD63). Can I just  install this and have no problems, or do I have to buy a connectivity kit to flash it?

I looked around the forums but didnt see an answer to my question.
I was forwarded to you guys by ludogaming.com.au for help.

Thank you in advance

Thank you for that. I just noticed a problem.
I ordered the SF-HD63 and its in a box labelled as that as well, but the actual laser says SF-HD67.
Should I bother? would it still work? Or just send it back and ask for the other?
thnx

How did you go about determining which model you needed?

I looked on the laser i took out of my machine and it says it on the base. Just tried to get the same one.
Thank you for your help guys, im guessing theres not much difference between the two. I took off the solder bubble and it worked.

So SF-HD63 and 67 must be near the same.

Thanx again

So you did get this to work?  A buddy of mine is having the same problems with his 360 and was wondering if I can do anything with it.  I know all about the regular xbox but not so much on the 360.  Was the process easy?  I don't know what drive he has or anything because I haven't opened it up but I was just trying to read ahead before I do.

hi,

Got similar prob with a friends drive(samsung)see this tread, so i did some research.
As far as i understand the 67 chip is for a samsung and the 63 for a hitachi, but dont know for sure its possible to swap each other.
Solder blob also shown on the tutorial.
Tutorial is from an ebay laser unit seller

hitachi laser replacement tutorial, also contains the solder blob point

Sorry for the massive thread resurrect (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Does anyone have pics of the soldered area after its been desoldered? I just wanted to see how it looks because im afraid of screwing up and accidentally burning thru the circuit or something (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

Hey guys

Just a thought as i was having major disc reading problems with my samsung drive, have any of you tried the POT TWEAK? i was just about to order a new laser for mine but thought **** it, i'll buy a multimeter instead and try the POT TWEAK and guess what.....my drive now works FLAWLESSLY.

definetly worth a go, it only took me about ten minutes  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
