Usb Not Working.
« on: December 16, 2006, 04:13:00 PM »

This is my second 360 to luckily break after my wonderfully long 2 month warranty. Thank god it is not something fatal. My USB bus is not working, ports in the front and the one in the back. I have only had my Vision camera plugged into the back. I noticed it stopped working, so I ended up trying to plug my iPod in and it didn't work either. So I know its the USB bus. Now I have another 360 with the 3 red lights, I have been meaning to try and fix it with the heat gun trick. Is possible to swap the USB from the broken one to the one with the broken USB? I do realize this would probably require desoldering and soldering. I have several xboxs, and actually did a few EEProm swaps. I do realize it will be much more difficult then soldering an EPProm. I just want to know if it would even work going from a launch console to one manufactured in May of 06.

Maybe no one's tried it yet.  Seems like it could work.  I doubt the USB is locked to the mobo like the ODD is.

Has anyone mapped out the mobo yet? Have they figured out which chipset is for the USB? I am going to open it up tomorrow and see if its hopefully a burnt trace or a lose wire.

Wow this is ridiculous. I had a random thought, that I thought was a long shot. I thought maybe the PSU wasn't putting out the 5v for the USB. Well originally I had the old PSU hooked up to my new xbox. So I tried hooking up the new PSU to the new xbox. Well my USB works now. I think the old PSU wasn't putting out the 5v for the USB. But the 5vsb power must have been working for the 360 to work. So I guess I solved my problem.
