Possible New Xbox 360 Flash Protection?
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:44:00 PM »

Hi all,

I'm not sure exactly which category this fits into, so mod's, feel free to move it.

A mate gave me his core 360 to flash the other day, so I opened it up and found out that it was a Toshiba DVD MS25 which is exactly the same as my 360 (which I have successfully flashed, amongst others.)  I backed up his original firmware, then flashed his ROM using Xtreme 4.2A.   I then tested a backed up game (a Verbatim +R tested and working on at least 3 other consoles) and his system came up with “to play this disc, put it in a xbox 360” video / error message.  I then put in my original PGR3 and Fight Night 3 discs which resulted in the same error message.  I tested an original DVD movie and it plays straight away.  I then put my Toshiba DVD Rom (flashed with Xtreme 4.2B and working fine in my 360) into his console and exactly the same error message comes up with both original and backed up games.

So I then got his flashed Toshiba and put it into my console and both original and backed up games and DVD movies all work fine.  And yes if you return the Toshiba Rom back to the original BIN, it does read original games in his 360.  A mate came over last night and we examined every minute detail on my consoles motherboard and my mate’s motherboard and the only difference that we could see apart from the obvious different serial numbers was that his IR daughter card controller on the front has “Microsoft” printed on it.  Apart from that, both of our drives are run MS25 firmware, and all of the revision numbers on the boards are the same.  It’s as if there is some DVD rom flash protection running somewhere on the motherboard...  Another weird thing is that I tried to connect my MS USB wireless adaptor to his console and I can’t get a network connection, but plug it back into mine and it goes green straight away.  I also attached my HHD to his 360 and that made no difference.  Whilst the HDD was attached it did ask for acceptance to do a dash update of which I accepted.  Still no difference after the dash update though.
Any ideas guys?
