Ms28 Problem
« on: November 29, 2006, 04:58:00 PM »

I just bought a new 360 core recently from Circuit City. Mfg date on it is 2006-09-11. It has a ms28 drive in it, so I searched around the threads for someone who could update the firmware on it. xbox-expert, who is a moderator, did it for me at his house. Before I brought it over, my retail games (sonic & gow) had been playing fine, no errors at all. Once it was flashed, he put a copy in, it loaded, and then turned the system off and off I went.

Now, I'm having some problems. I'm using verbatim dl's and my games, sometimes, will load and play for a few minutes and give a dirty disc error, and sometimes it won't even recognize the game. My retail copy of GOW will load fine, play for 5-10 minutes, then give me a dirty disc error as well. I was told it was flashed w/ 4.2b. I know very little about this, so bare with me.

What is the possibility that the laser somehow got damaged through the firmware hack? If it didn't get damaged, could it be a bad flash? Can my dvd drive be corrupt? If it is, what's my next step? The warranty is void now that it is open. Need some serious help here. Thanks in advance.

It might have something to do with your technique on burning your backed up games.  Try searching in the thread on these forums on DVD+R DL burners and recordable media combos that people have used to make successful backups.  They must be burned at 2.4x and not higher to guarantee a properly backed up disc.  Ask xboxexpert if the firmware flashed is reading backups at 12x or at 4x.  A slower read speed should fix your problems and, depending on the firmware, should be activiated with an original 360 game disc.  Either way, double check with xboxexpert to see which variant of the firmware you got.

PS- Oh yeah, i think this question is in the wrong forum bro.

Hey there guys I'm glad I caught you here on the forums.  I sensed some tension on the telephone cause I can understand the fusteration of getting your xbox done up and then havening it bust on your due to a laser that might have been going bad.  I flashed this box with 4.2B,  I don't understand why it would kill your laser or even if it did.  It might be the medium that you burn your games to.  You said you use Verbs so I cant see it being that.  It might be the read speeds that you are using.  I use 2.4x thats why it takes me a year and a day to burn one backup.  I know that it worked when it left my residence and it was playing backed up games so it tells me that the mod worked.  I cant understand how it would just crap out on your since there was no read/write to the firmware since.  I hope you resolve this and in my professional opinion this is not my fault in the least.  If it works when it leaves and it craps out after that its not my doing.  I would 100% give you a free lens or even a free DVD Drive if infact I knew for a fact it was my doing or my fault.  I just like to keep my rep of 100% happy customers and I hope we resolve this in a timely manner so you can get back on your 360 and rip it up.

P.S - - Moved to correct forum  ;-)

P.S² - - I have no problem reflashing your drive to stock or even 4.2a if you think it will make a difference.

I'm not here to blame you. I'm glad you saw the most, b/c you know more than I know about the firmware you've done. Yes, I left your place with the backup game loading, but never tried actually playing it. It was on for maybe 5 seconds, at most. My backup games load that way now too. Since you never actually played a backup game on the console, you can't say it was "working" when I left your place because it still will load on my system, now. I'm not trying to give you a bad rep or anyone on this forum, just simply looking to resolve the problem.

The firmware mod either works or it doesn't.  You just told me that the firmware loaded backed up games so it obviously works.  It must be a defective console.

If it's a defective console, then why does it play retail games?

Honestly, I have no idea.  Yet it CAN NOT be the firmware mod we did considering the firmware either works perfectly or it doesn't.  It has to be the way you burn the games.  Get your self a Pioneer 111D drive with 1.23 firmware and bitsetting and test it.  I'm sure it will work perfectly.

My 111d comes in the mail Friday, so I'll try it then. I was able to play GOW for 1.5hrs without a clean disc error. I was reading around and someone mentioned that sometimes GOW gives an error with a certain update? Does that sound like a possibility? I'll test out a new retail game (sonic) and a new burned game on Friday to see if anything else happens with it. I'll get back to you then. Thanks, and don't think I'm trying to give you a bad rep because I'm not.

The same thing happened to my buddy. He was using verbatim dls.  He changed to Memorex dls and has had no problems since.  It is not your xbox or your flash.  It is the discs.

I had an brandnew ms28 of wich i dumped the original firmware from with 100% sucsess. After dumping the firmware using the 10 sec trick i made an Xtreme 4.2B and flashed it in the Ms28 drive. After starting up my Xbox the middle green light kept flashin rapidly and i tryed to flash back the original firmware but it still gave me the same error of the light flashing in the middle of the cirlce. I thought maybe the orig.bin was somehow a bad dump even tho it seemed proper on hexwrokshop and so i downloaded a brand new ms-28 firmware, replaced the drive key and flashed that to my Ms28. It still gave me the same light flashing and now the drive wont eject no more or start spinning... When i connect it agian to my pc using my via 6421 card it shows the sata port its been connected to but after using the 10sec trick agian it does not seem to respond!!

 Can anyone Help me plz?!
