Is It Almost Certain That My 360 Will Die?
« on: November 28, 2006, 12:04:00 PM »

there are miniscule amounts of people who experience problems compared to overall owners if you do a good job and do it properly then you should be fine updates such as the fall one wich creates issues are are just unforseen problems that you would recieve with any console you decide to rape beyond manufacturers specifications.

besides the fall update issue was easily fixed.

flashing the fw will not make a difference. i would say it is almost certain that your 360 will die no matter what. everyone i know with a 360, including myself have had to send in their 360 in less then a year(except for my brother that has a launch 360, that he leaves on all day, everyday dry.gif ). the only problem i see with flashing the fw is that you will void your warranty, and chances are, your gonna need it.

While I'm sorry for you and "everyone" you know with a 360, that is an erroneous statement. If you used any logic you'd realize that if everyone that bought a 360 experienced failure, or even half or a quarter of those people that they would be heard. MS would HAVE to recall. It would be cheaper for them. You make have made no sense. All that I personally know that have purchased 360's have experienced no problems. (Although I have repaired 25+ now)

You must do a low volume of repairs.

I have 700+ with 0102 or 0110 errors. Around 65% of all 360s that we get have these errors. The problem is not miniscule or minor.

Well, i have 3 friends with 360s. One has sent his in twice, so he is on his third, and he is getting dirty disk errors with that one. The other two are on their first as far as i know. I sent my second one in last week, should be receiving a new one this week (just got sent a tracking number). All in all, that's 8 (soon to be 9?) 360s between 4 people, so i would say that it is likely that it will die.

While i realise that i am part of a vocal minority, my friends are not, and i am including both of the ones with no problems.

Personally i'm going to wait for the  price of them to come down before i mod mine, and even better, for a real modchip to come out (homebrew etc.).

what is the best way to test the xbox to see if its going to have one of the common errors?  I downloaded the Lost Planet demo and played around with it... so far no probs.

Stress testing is the only real way...

Get Gears of War and/or Dead Rising. Both of those games are pretty intensive on the console. If you can play them for ages, with no glitches or anything, it is likely that it will be good, but by no means certain. Oh, and download the updates (as i'm sure you have anyway).

Having said this, mine acted up randomly, both of them did actually.

Tried Dead Rising for an hour with no problems but I doubt you meant an hour when you said play them for ages.  Its possible I'm not the type of gamer who will have an overheating issue since I rarely play more than 1 or 2 hours at a time.

Thanks to everyone who replies with various forms of advice in this thread. smile.gif

Cool. Well, most of the complaints recently have stemmed from GoW, the fall update, or the 1080p update, so if you really want to have an idea, do all of them and play some GoW for a few hours (more than you may usually i guess).

I'm hoping that the 65nm chips will solve some of the overheating issues too. And my console will be under warranty then too smile.gif So if it goes tits up, i can get one of the new ones.
