Games Freezing Etc

All of a sudden I am having games freeze on me.  The first one was my backup of NFS Carbon....which is on a Verbatim Disc and second was the backup of COD 3 which is on a Ritek Printable.  NEVER had a problem before, but now three or four games are doing this.. Including my retail copy of Tony Hawk.  The drive is an Hitachi and flashed with the latest firmware I believe.  Is the drive going bad?  And if so, what are my options?

Anyone at all!!!   Tried again this morning and made another backup of my Carbon.  Same deal, but different spot.

I've recently had the same problem.

To fix it for atleast a few hours, I clear the cache when turning the system on.

But i've not had this problem before the Fall update cept for Obvilion.
It could be these newer games utilizing the cache much more.
I wish MS made an option in the dashboard to clear the darn cache, or maybe a routine to clear it everytime the 360 is turned on.

Think there is two ways to do it, so i always doit both ways.

Hold down A while the system boots and (hold down A while the game boots (oblivion only?))

i recently had this exact same problem, my games froze, i got horizontal white broken lines on it, sometimes it would turn green and blocky, i went to canadian tire and picked up a heat gun for 20 bucks and tried that on it, that was 3 days ago and my xbox hasnt froze since, i've read that its a band-aid but it seems to be working for now.

I thought it might be becuase of the 3 Burger King games I just bought.
I have not updated the xbox with the Fall update because I don't want to open it back up to reflash.  



What is a Heat Gun, and what do you do with it?

This is a big problem - lots of 360s are freezing mid-game due to the fall update.  But M$ refuse to acknowledge it.

go on youtube and do a search for "xbox 360 fix" and that will answer all your questions, i was somewhat skeptical at first, but it seemed to work, for now at least.

I did a search.  You mean the spanish red ring video?
I can't find one that is related to fixing the freeze issue.



EDIT:
OK, I found it search for "Xbox360 hot gun fix."  I really didn't want to take my system apart again.  BAH!
I wonder how the hell someone came up with this?  You would thik heating things up would be bad!?!?

No, I refused to do the Hot-gun fix.  Since this problem didn't truly exist before the fall update.
Now games that worked fine Prior to the Fall update are locking up after only a few minutes along with games I haven't played since after the Fall Update.  The system doesn't feel hot as well, I play in my basement with the 360 ventilated and not in an entertainment center, the basement temp is actually cooler than the rest of the house.

The Hot-Gun fix, i've heard is not a solid fix, it works for some, not for others, the ratio for correcting problems doesn't do it for me since this problem of mine (ours?) is so well timed with the Fall update.

If MS will refuse to do anything about it, I may end up *shiver* converting to the Dark side.

But I can keep the problem at bay by doing the following.

) Reboot between games, while turning the system on hold down Y
) While the game loads, Hold down A

This usually corrects most problems for me.  If I forget to do this, it will lock up on Demo's or XBLA games, if I do it, lockups are usually held off for atleast an hour or 2.

i do agree that the hot air gun fix is probably a band-aid at best, the fact is that it worked for me, my system used to freeze up after 10 mins every bloody time i turned it on, i have no warranty, as i bought all the parts seperately, thinking i would save money (I didnt) and i would have been completely screwed, so if you have no warranty this is definitely something to try. if you're too afraid to open up your box, then i guess you're screwed cause its not just gonna fix itself.
I must say that i'm very unimpressed with M$, i had a problem with my xbox live account and  i tried to phone them the last 2 days to get it sorted out. and i waited on hold for 45 mins each time, and ended up hanging up. They make a shitty console and they have shitty customer service. I really hate them....

It's really important that you don't agree to the 140 dollars. My 360 did the same exact thing after applying the fall update and one representive said they were trying to block people with modded xbox's. I talked to a supervisor who said that Microsoft is seeing how many people are complaining about this issue. He said they might send me a check back if it turns out to be a software update problem, however I feel like I won't get this check unless other people get their voice heard.



Since my last post on here I have tried the fall update because I didn't think it could make things worse (my Xbox kept freezing no matter what I tried).  Then I tried formatting the HD.  The freezing became more frequent until I finally got the three rings of death.  At no point did I see an error message.


Is anyone else having problems with the fall update and freezing?
