« on: November 10, 2006, 08:58:00 AM »

hello there, here is what happened,
ohhhh,,, so from the beginig..............my xbox 360 stopped to read the games.. dirty disk problem ... so what i did was the pot calibration and reduce it from 3.9k ohm to 3.01 , so i first tried to run a backup like the poster moda asked to test ur best calibration so the 360 was opened and without a HD when i tried the nfs carbon backup, then it asked for an update for the game and here the problem happened .... i pressed the ok button to update , suddenly the screen dissapered and an error 79 was there (E79) i checked the error it was a hard disk problem with the secondary 1033 that i didnt find in the http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/i...hp/t484726.html errors page post. i tried many things to do .... i brought cables from my freind for tv and power supply assuming that something happend with my connectors .... boooom same error again ....... i dont know what to do .... i tried alot.... im stuck here and need some help
any suggestions guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I received an E 79 when I updated Splinter Cell last week.  Prior to that my console was working flawlessly.  Now I have a box that gives the three red lights 0102.  I'm not sure what is going on with those updates.

There's no doubt about it...its these LIVE updates that is causing this new Error 79 (E 79)...its not a coincidence because the EXACT same happend to me this evening immediatly after I took the HALO game update  (XBOX1 original game--not backup) .....it prompted me when immediately when I inserted the "original" XBOX1 game (Halo)..rented from local video store.

I have owned this XBOX360 for two weeks and its an original Samsung MS25 drive manufactired March 22, 2006.

I flashed it to Xtreme v4.2a (I have the proper VIA chipset)..and it worked perfectly with all the many backups and originals I made--15 all together...I used XBC v2.3 to make the DVD+R DL backups...flawlessly.

the "original" (not BACKUP) HALO game played fine..but when I hit the eject button afer I saved my game progress..it triggered an immediate E79 error code (secret code 1033?).

I think it corrupted the SATA 20 gig hardive?

prior to this I have made approx. 15 XBOX360 game backups I made..but this was the first original XBOX 1 game (HALO).

so it must be something specific to the older Halo game that is used inside an XBOX360...its suppose to be backward compatable, espcially with this game....right?  of its an ECM?

I also use that rear expansion fan accesory to make it run even cooler.

also I flashed the original firmware (MS25 back) and I still get error 79 (1 red flashing light--bottom right qaudrant) immedialty upon restart with original and backups and with hardrive installed and removed and internet cable plugged an unplugged...all permutations tested...I even banged on it slightly.

I am seeing more and more of these ERROR 79 codes after the FALL updates for games were streamed by XBOX LIVE.

Is this SAMSUNG MS25 specific and has it been seen on the nerwer Hitachi drives?

I beleive from my forum readings this unit is totally bricked.....but I will take it apart and clean its internals and plug things in and out--but I doubt that will help

any suggestions or ideas of what the cause was?

if the hardrive is corrupted, is there a way to reformat it to factory without removing it?

a secret way to erase it using buttons on the controller etc..?

is it XBOX1 backward compatabibity related and did that screw it up using xtreme v4.2a?

Ben

can you please elaborate in far more precise detail..your explanation is confusing to say the least...i grasp the concept and not the procedure.

and yes I agree the idea of backing up the HDD to make some sort backup image (i/e like a Ghost type of image) is excatly what I was thinking...

so in the future if this happens again I can reformat the XBOX360--HDD and install the backup image (20 gigs is small enough to store on my laptops hardrive) before the corruption occured by the XBOX live game patch was installed to it....assuming of course it did not also corrupt any serial eeproms on the mother board.

purchasing a CONNECTIVITY kit for SATA HDD connenction may become a mandatory issue if error 79 continues..because I belive this error is because it corrupted the hardrive in some particular fashion...no doubt the insertion of an original XBOX1 game (Halo) caused problems with xtreme v4.2a firmware...which struggles to be backward compliant in the first place.

and the game update from XBOX live was the trigger..it was not a coincidence..I wonder if this is a HALO specific issue this winter 2006 with xtreme v4.2a?

now,

what I need to know is EXACTLY what software to use, what type of SATA connectivity kit works best and the procedures for its implementation...beaisde losing game save sis no laughing matter..unless of course you save them to that $40 memory car that MS tries to sell as an acessory...

saving game saves to the HDD s extremely stupid unless you have a connectivity kit that allows peridic backing up to another harddrive or USB flash drive.

this is a good thread to answer such a question becasue its essential we all start backing up our hdd IMMEDIATLY NOW THAT ERROR 79 is becoming a very popular problem this winter 2006...I am seeing alot of it causing the one red light flashing.

please explain in detail further?

thank you

and my controller dont work becouse of the error so i cant empty the cash for the xbox itself not the hdd cash
i think we need a profitional help from the scene here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah I now have this problem no solution to date seems to be corrupted cache or whatever on the xbox. Sometimes it tries to boot up but fails again be because once when it did work I went into the System INITIAL setup option and it did a E71 1023 error I think? so not when it does almost boot up it just faults back to E79/71.

Big problem and there should be a emergency default reset somewhere otherwise MS would be going bankrupt tossing xbox out just because of a UPDATE fault. Really annoying.

HDD seems it have no baring but perhaps its fixable by downgrading the HDD data and such and booting with a clean XBOX hdd????????????  Also my dvd drive is Hitachi with xtreme1.4.

This occurred after software updates I'm pretty sure.
