For all you people around the atlanta area...Fry's in ALpharetta has the HD DVD drive for the xbox 199.99 w/ king kong. I thought i read that it wasn't supposed to be out for another 2 weeks or so, but i got one. Just thought i'd let you guys know.

Just got the drive.  I have a component and a vga cable -- I've noticed via component my tv is reporting 1920 x 1080 i and via vga it is reporitng 1920 x 1080 p -- picture quality is virtually the same from a distance... and after adjusting my settings (drop the brightness and backlight and add a bit of saturation) on vga it looks real crisp.  

To the guy who wanted a comparison between dvd and hd dvd -- I dont have any hd dvds besides the one that came with it yet (King Kong)... but I've seen dvd's before and there were not bsing you -- higher resolution does make a lot of difference.

I picked up a hd dvd player yesterday and i am very impressed with it. The hd dvds look excellent.

Also I have tried all the formats in my house and from standerd dvds at 480p to backed up movies on dvd+dl as well as dvd-r at 480p all play and look exellent. I was hoping that backed up media would play at 1080i but this is not the case.

If a person has a older hdtv without a dvi connection this is a great option.

how many 360 do you have? don't you just wish the external hd dvd drive to match your black 360. I really wish that my external to match my sun orange faceplate and also the dvd tray to be place on the other side (white curvy side like the 360). maybe then they can make a smaller version faceplate just for the hd drive, LOL
