My Games Freeze At Times And I Sometimes Get Disc Unreadable

A few of my games would freeze on me (Madden 06 did it a lot , Madden 07 does it on occasion, Saints Row started doing it fairly often - but some games seem to be fine, and NFS Carbon just did it to me 10 minutes ago). Also, if it didnt just freeze on me, i would get Disc Unreadable Errors - and these were brand new perfect condition games.

I thought it was a heating issue (because of everything i've read online) but i never got any red rings,etc...i called 18004myxbox earlier today and they told me to try it without the hard drive attached. I most likely wont be doing this any time soon because im not going to sit there for however long playing a game until it crashes (or doesnt).

But could it possibly be the hard drive? Are there symptoms anywhere of a failing 360 HD? I only ask because in Madden 07, when it first loads and loads the franchises on my HD (it has 2) it started taking a long time lately (That's been LATELY, it used to work just fine...and the freezes and disc error have been happening WAY before that started happening)



And if it is the HD...what do i do? Do i have to buy a new one, or does M$ take care of it (my 360 was bought in Dec 05 - i know they have some thing where they fix it for free for those systems, but didnt know if the HD was included in that).

It wouldnt be a prob with the hard drive.....Its either a laser problem/DVD drive problem or heat problem.

I think its a laser problem....anyone else know what it might be?

EDIT: If you still hav the warranty, just send it back. Its far easier for M$ to repair it for you. Youll have to ring up M$ and check you still have the warranty though....

oh okay. I had just called 18004myxbox before NFS Carbon froze today. I heard that they were doing free repairs on consoles manufactured before Jan 2006 (or something like that) - and mine i bought in Dec 2005. They didnt mention it. They just told me to try playing without the hard drive to see if it happens again and gave me a new ref# . I guess i'll call them again.

How long does it take for them to send you the shipping box to you?   I called them again about a week and a half to 2 weeks ago (when they said they would send it) and i still havent received it

My Tony Hawk Project 8 is the only one that really freezes of my games.  GRRR.  I hate when it freezes up on you w/o you saving first.  I wonder if the ps3 is equal to the 360 freeze ups.   Seems like my 360 got worse after the fall update... anyone else?!? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

GOW is doing it for me. I'm taking my 360 back to walmart to get a new one  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)
