Faulty Dvd-drive?
« on: October 31, 2006, 05:13:00 AM »

Hi,

I've installed a chameleon-case, and since that my dvd-drive act's strange.
After a lot of searching i figured out that the supplied printboard was fault.
I fixed that problem, and everything looked to be working oke.
But after a game night, i found one problem.
Sometimes when opening the dvd-drive, it wouldn't close anymore.
I had to turn off the xbox360, and turn it on again so it closes it self.
And since today ( after the dashboard update through xbox-live ) the dvd-tray doesn't close anymore.
When i push the dvd-tray close ( xbox turned off), it opens when i turn the xbox on, and stays like that.
i doesn't respond to anything.

The dvd-drive is original and has not been flashed.

Does anyone have a suggestion ?????

Don't know if this applies (seeing as your drive is not flashed) but it sounds like the drive is stuck in modeb (if its a hitachi), make sure that nothings come loose at the back of the drive or remove the drive completly and either just plug it back in after a few minutes or open the drive and manually close it by hand and place a game in to see if it still boots up ok.

Thats all I can think of, sorry if this doesn't help.

Case, eh? Well is it possible you have knocked or broken the connection between your DVD drive button and your mother board/dvd drive?

@Ozy

The case is installed perfectly, because before the dashboard update it worked ok.
And the dvd-drive sometimes didn't close.
I've checked the wires over and over again, it's seems oke.

@jesterferian

The drive is a Hitachi, and your solutions didn't work.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
If the drive is in Mode-B, how do i correct this.
Do i have to flash the firmware or is there another way.

hmmm in the game night did it get knocked at all? perhaps kicked by an angry friend? in my old halo days i had a few friends over with the black behemoth, i was 0wing up so hard after my 1000000 pistol kill a angry friend with a short fuse kicked in my xbox. afterwards the dvd drive would do the same thing as yours.

Yeah I have been having a problem with the case too. I installed the case the now my dvd drive running a bit slower. I am pretty sure it has to do with the power for the lights is coming from the dvd drive. I disconnected the lights and the system runs fine. plug in the lights and now it running slower. i tried to contact XCM but they have not responded yet. I am wondering if there is a way to plug the LED's into the fan power supply or create its own power supply. Anyone have any idea's

@J.K.B

Nope nobody knocked the xbox, the xbox is on a shelf in a closet.
And everyone has a wireless controller.

Even without the case, the problem stays the same.
