Something Interesting That I Found At Bestbuy Today
« on: October 29, 2006, 01:07:00 AM »

Well my girlfriend gave me a 60 dollar gift card to BestBuy so we went there today and i was looking around and i came across this new product by Datel called the "Xport"  Pretty much what it does and docks your 360s hard drive and lets you connect it to your computer and backup EVERYTHING on it.  Now i havent really been keeping up on that many 360 things but i have never heard of anything like that before so i thought it was pretty cool so i went ahead and bought it, it was 39.99.  One thing also that is cool about it is that it also allows you to transfer stuff from your 360 AND original xbox memory card to either your computer or to the 360s hard drive, so yup, that means that you can transfer game saves from your original xbox hdd to your 360s hard drive.  I have not really had a chance to mess with it that much but it does seem to be pretty cool.  Here are some screen shots of it:

Sorry if this is old news.

Yeah i'm messing with it a little bit more before work and right now i am making a full backup of my hdd to an image file on my computer hdd.  I believe i can even restore/copy that image to any other 360 hdd.  The main reason that i bought this is because i thought it would be a pretty simple and quick way copy all your stuff from one hdd to another if M$ ever decides to release a large hard drive.  Ya know?  Heres a screen capture of my hdd being backed up, i wonder if it actually does do a sector by sector copy because even though i still have like 9GB free on my hdd the image file is still a whopping 18.6GB.  Later on i will try to restore it to another hdd and see how that works out.

Ya i bought one of those at best buy as well last saturday, i didnt think it was anything new so i didnt bother posting any info on it. But it indeed works when it comes to switching the image to another HD, the down side to it though is when you do put the image on another HD, it overwrites the entire contents of the HD. So if your gonna do it, you'll wanna make sure theres no extra data on the new HD that you wouldnt wanna loose.

Thats the XSata adapter thing, with that you have to have your entire 360  next to your computer in order to transfer stuff, this Xport only requires your 360s hard drive.  And just sto people know, the reason that there are two usb connectors is that one is for the hard drive and one is for the memory card.  You know if you have the hard drive usb connecter plugged in because a blue light on the front will turn on, if you have only the memory card plugged in no light will turn on.  And of course you can just plug both in at the same time if you want to transfer from memory card and hdd at the same time.

So wait is the thing in the third picture a device you can plug into ur 360 mem card slot and allows u use hook up ur orinigal xbox mem card to transfer saves? Cause that in itself would be sweet.

I wonder if this will work with a Mac? I know the program is for PC, but do you think you still might be able to transfer files using a mac?

All I want is that memory card adapter. Been waiting forever for something like that...

It does just plug straight into the 360, right?

I'll give anyone here 10 bucks for it, it is just a bonus after all. tongue.gif

Yup, it plugs right into your 360, also on the nose end of the HD device its self, theres a memory card slot. SO that you can use the adapter on the device itself to get saves for the memory card, or even just plug a real 360 memory card right into the front.

*EDIT*

I snapped a few pics of what i was talking about.

I've been using this thing for about a month now. It's actually a decent product. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a way to hook it up and get it working on a mac (i am mainly a mac user myself) so I've just been using my pc. I think it might be possible if someone was able to write a proper driver and/or application for it, but I don't see that ever happening.
