Hitachi Gdr3120l Not Visible Under Xp
« on: October 22, 2006, 05:55:00 AM »

hi all,

i've successfully open my Xbox 360 and extracted the dvd-rom last night.
My dvd-rom is a Hitachi GDR3120L rom:0046DH.
I want to flash its firmware of this drive with the Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_2_Stealth 8in1.
I've attached the dvdrom to a SATA port available on my pc and the power cable is still connected to the Xbox360.
After windows starts i can see the hitachi drive in windows.

Do you any idea or advise ?

I've the same result with my 2 different PC.
- 1 athlon64 with nforce4 chipset
- 1 athlonxp with nforce2 chipset

I've tried to set my drive into modeb using the slax livecd with both configuration:
- with the athlon64 one it seems that the drive is not detected, the text scroll too quickly so i watched the dmesg command result after login into the linux and can't see my hitachi drive.
- with the nforce2 one, the drive is seen and the line set to modeb thanks to kev is displayed during the boot process.

But when i restart under windows XP the drive is still invisble.

Do you have any idea or advise ?

Best regards,

trying to solve my problem i saw on a web site a product from Team Xecuter 360USB.
According to their web site its a SATA to USB converter allowing connection of Xbox 360 HDD and DVD to your PC. It's compatible with the Hitachi GDR3120L dvd-rom drive and support firmware updates via garyopa or birdy toos.

As it seems to be a compatibility issue between my nforce2 or 4 SATA controler and the hitachi DVD drive this could be the solution, isn't it ?

did you try going into your device manager and look for new devices.  This is what I had to do once I got it into modeb.  It shows up in windows after that.

thks dude for your answer.
I've solved my problem.
Here is what was wrong in case it could help someone.
first when i switch my xbox 360 on with the dvd drive SATA connector attached to the PC the big button showed a RED light and after a few minutes the 360 switched off automatically.
So when i booted my computer using the slax liveCD to switch the drive into modeb it cost a lot of time and the 360 switched off  before i could boot into windows XP so modeb was lost and the drive isn't detected.

To solve this i simply connect the video cable to the 360 and the lbig showed a GREEN light so now i've enought time to boot the slax livecd to switch the drive into modeb and then to boot windows XP to flash the drive with the correct firmware.

Good Luck
