Dead Box After Earthquake?
« on: October 17, 2006, 01:31:00 AM »

I'm sure you folks heard about the earthquake in the Pacific the other day.  Well, we experienced a power outage here in Hawaii for a few hours because of it and now my 360 won't turn on.  Yes, I had it plugged into a surge protector AND a grounded outlet, but now it's...DEAD!  Waaaaaah!  Anyhow, I'm planning on calling it in for a free replacement, but I just need someone to assure me that it'll be FREE with no questions asked!  I got it from Walmart at launch last year.  Thanks guys...enjoy Double Agent!  Grr...

If its out of warranty why would you think it was free to repair? If you mention the cause as being external power outages due to the earthquake, it may be chargeable even if the console is under warranty.
The problem is likely to have been caused by a "spike" in the power supply voltage so unless MS or walmart are responsible for the earthquake you may have to pay up or claim it on your household insurance if covered

If you got it at walmart, you might try to take it back... They will take almost anything back here. The local Sam's club here took back a year old trampoline that was destroyed by a tornado. It is worth a try anyway.

I was PLANNING on calling them and I did, but I was just hoping someone else in the forum experienced the same problem so I could receive some kind of assurance that it would be repaired/replaced since Microsoft announced that they would replace them if manufacture date was 2005, but you know how that goes...usually exceptions.  So technically it's out of warranty, but will still be serviced at no charge...I HOPE!  I do have the Walmart receipt so I'll give that a try as well.  Mahalo again to all.

Here's a reference to my argument although it may not be applicable to my problem.  My focus is on the ALL PROBLEMATIC part.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
