Error 0021 Dvd Not The Problem?
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:53:00 PM »

Hey, i just bought my xbox not even 4 days ago and got it for 300 bucks since tower records is going out of business and had 25% off on everything.  Eitherway, If i return the system i basically have to go to another place and buy it for 400 dollars and if i send it in to MS they wil give me a refurb one.  IN the end, knowing that i have less than 5 hours on this system i'm not willling to accept a refurb one.  I also read the artcile on error codes and they said the error code 0021 is a dvd drive problem and the dvd drive doesn't open.  Mine opens and closes fine, so would their be another problem?  I also called MS and talked to their tech and she said it was a power supply problem, but i'm convenienced she's an idiot and i told her i used another 360's power supply and that wasn't the problem. (since my brother has a 360 also)  Has anyone ever faced this problem?  Is it a fried?  Anyone commets or help could be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I struggled with this one for a while with a customer and didn't get any answers on here.  It clearly wasn't a DVD problem, despite what the FAQ said.  I opened it up (preserved the sticker with a hair dryer) and took out the DVD drive, flashed it with my key, it worked fine in my 360.  I then took my drive, put it in his with his key and it didn't work.  I switched all the drive cables to be sure with my working ones, still nothing.  Tried swapping power supply, video cables, every cable in the thing was from my working box as my DVD drive so it had to be something with the board.  I put the sticker back on and told him to send it back rather than get into any replacing of thermal paste or the heat gun thing or anything like that.
