Weird Pads On Memory Chips, Normal?
« on: October 15, 2006, 01:49:00 AM »

i was opening up a broken 360 i bought, which has a 0110 memmory error, and when i took the mobo out of the tray these weird pads where on the memory on the back.  I've never seen/heard of these before but maybe that just me.  Are they normal?

Someone was talking about this a couple weeks ago I heard that they are "heat transfer pads" and they transfer the heat to the casing

Yep theyre normal to have and yes they transfer heat from the RAM chips to the metal casing. I would highly reccommend keeping them on, as they help quite a bit.

If any RAM chips are damaged/not working, itll be any of the 4 chip on the top of the motherboard. Ill be its one of the two sitting under the GPU heatsink
