How Much Further Can Firmware Hacks Go?
« on: September 25, 2006, 06:21:00 AM »

I was just wishing to ask this so anyone in the know could possibly discuss this.

But as I was considering buying my first Xbox360 after I heard of Xecuters Blaster360 device that is designed to make future firmware upgrading easier.

However some people have suggested that the firmware hacking side of things has potentially gone as far as it can possibly go.

Is this right? and therefore should I just have my drive flashed with the current backup firmware and leave it with this. Or is there still much to be potentially be seen from any future firmware upgrading side of things.

One thing i am hoping for is to be able to backup xbox360 games onto a DVD5 and play them perfectly on the Xbox360. Is this likely to be ever possible with a firmware upgrade or is this just simply above what firmware upgrades can ever do.

Thanks
Anth

the FW hacks are pretty nifty, but from what I've read on XBH, this is about it.

I'm still waiting for a real kernel hack

I agree with G0t M4xx 21, I have a Sammy ms25 DVD drive on my 360 and with the latest 3.3 FW update installed I really can't see what else they could possibly do? My box runs flawlessly with this FW and unless they do something amazing like incorporating the activate.iso into the FW I really don't think I'll ever re-flash my drive again. What I want is a piece of hardware mod that will allow you to ripp iso's from your 360 without having to open the machine! If this is possible with the blaster 360 then I'll buy it straight away! Otherwise I'm perfectly happy with my box and don't foresee any other modifications in my future.
