0102 Error After ~9 Months
« on: September 09, 2006, 11:22:00 AM »

I know there are a bunch of threads on this already, but I have a few questions.

Well here's what happened:  Yesterday, I go to play Condemned that I just bought, and it freezes after 10 minutes (first time it ever froze since I bought it).  I didn't save, so I thought I would try out the Far Cry Predator demo.  I restart it, and get the Far Cry demo going, and that freezes after about 5 minutes.  Then today I just bought Test Drive Unlimited.  I put that in, and I don't even get to the menu before it freezes.  I restart it, it freezes at the dashboard, then finally the 3 rings of light.  So it seems my 360 died a slow death (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  I've been reading on the forums, and I'd rather not try the heat gun.  I called Xbox, they say its $140 to fix, I tried complaining that it's a common problem, and a manufacturing defect, but they won't change the price.  This is some BS, they should at least have a 1 year warranty.  Any suggestions or anything specific I should say to the Xbox rep?  I could see maybe $50, but for $140 for something that should have been covered by a warranty isn't right.

Thanks for any help
-Matt

Mine started showing problems after 9 months too.  All I can say is I had the warranty and it looks like they sent me a stinking brand new unit with a manufacturing date of 4.5 monts ago.  The 360 even prompted me about a dash update.

I had the exact same problem here but when i called Microsoft here in the UK they just said UPS will be there to pick it up in 3 or so hours, no charge and completely free repair, I cant believe they would charge you that sort of money just to fix it, if you haad the warranty still couldnt you have taken it to the store you bought it from and got them to replace it?

same problem. took it apart and redid a few solder points and now im on the gaming highway again. And now I have a custom BLUE & ORANGE box with two extra fans and the 5V fans put on 12V thanks to the power supply putting out 12V.

Do NOT turn this thread into a trollfight.

I'm sorry about your 360, but there was the option to buy the one year warranty within three months of when you bought it.  Nine months down the road and you expect Microsoft to fix something?  I can't tell Wal*Mart to take my wireless phone back six months after the warranty expires, and the same applies to the 360.

Yes, I might say that $130 is too much, but that's Microsoft's decision.

And adamwebby: in the UK there is a mandatory 1-year warranty on electronics, I believe.  In the US, it's up to the state.
