Retail sources have indicated to GamesIndustry.biz that Microsoft is currently planning to price the standalone HD-DVD drive at GBP 199 (~293EUR or ~370USD), and to package it with two HD-DVD movies. The sources also suggested that Microsoft will bundle the Premium console and next-generation movie player together for under GBP 400 (~589EUR, ~745USD) - and that the price could even be as low as GBP 375 (~552EUR, ~700USD).

It's expected an official Premium bundle will be made available in early November, with a newly released triple-A third-party title included.

Note: I added an USD pricepoint to the article above, but I just converted the currency. The actual prices will probably be lower in USA (due lower saletaxes etc). To give you an idea, the Xbox 360 Pro Pack sells at 399eur (converted that's ~505usd ... so over 100usd more than the official 399usd pricepoint in the USA). So the actual retail price of the HD-DVD addon in North-America will probably be closer to 300USD.

A bit pricey tbh. we seem to pay £1 for $1 as the OP already said. Whats interesting about this is that HD penetration is quite low in the UK.... Far lower than America IMHO.

I get the feeling they do this just to have HD format to compete with PS3 (as thats got a blueray drive). It will be very interesting to see the sales figures....hope it does well obviously; cant see it happening tbh.

I don't get it, that is almost as much as a standalone hd-dvd player with better picture and hdmi output. I was thinking closer to 250 and i would have been happy to buy one but 370 is just way to much.

I still think it'll be $200-250 here(in the US). maybe MS just priced it higher in the UK, due to the lack of HD competition this holiday season

Possibly if its true, you may want to wait for an official announcement before judging though. 370 seems pretty ludicrous, 100 or 200 I can understand.

if price of 199GBP is correct, don't count on it going below 299usd in the US.

wow, I'm honestly shocked it's that high. Didn't they say that the cost of the console+Drive would be less then the cost of a PS3...

I guess I'll be waiting quite a bit longer before buying a next gen video format.

I almost wonder if this has something to do with the recent announcement of the Blue Doide shortages holding back production of next gen drives (and suposidly the reason why the PS3 production was cut way back).

umm.. i always thought $200 was official. But noooooo, just make us whip out $370.. damn you MS!!! This just turned away 3/4ths of the people that were planning on buying this. Id rather save up an extra 230 and buy a ps3...or another 360.. or like.. 2 wii's

no way that is the correct price
seems too bul$hit for me

if the xbox360 premim + hd dvd is 589 euros, wil be way better toget a ps3 (even if it's in march 2007)
