Thats not true, other wifi adaptors work. I seen guys use other linksysy ones

What you guys are talking about is a wireless ethernet bridge.  Some bridges can be powered through USB which I think is what is causing the mix up.  The ones that are powered through USB only draw power through USB and still have to be connected to the ethernet port.

Unless MS decides to make 3rd party USB wifi adapters compatible for the 360 a bridge is the way to go if you want to save money.

CattyKid answered this.  USB adapters DO NOT work on the 360.  Only ethernet based adapters (as fahrenheit noted) work.
For USB you MUST use the M$ adapter.  Hell, it's in the pinned FAQ if anyone had bothered to read it.
