Insight Into The 360 Internals...
« on: August 20, 2006, 07:58:00 PM »

Hello,
I am currently researching the inside of the Xbox 360 without actually having one to go by...  I've built several orig. xbox's this way with various success rates and would like to attempt the 360 in the same manor.  Basically my questions are about what I would need in order to have a fully functional Xbox 360 built by various parts and pieces.  I will be building my own case, or at least getting an after market case.  What internals need to be from the same system? (like how the mobo and HD had to match for the orig. xbox)...  A list of all the internal parts would be GREAT help.  I've obviously seen pictures and such of the inside, but I would like to know what it would take to build one from various systems.  This is just the initial research for me, and I'm testing the waters to see if it's even financially worth it, let alone the sense of accomplishment...  I'm broke right now and honestly I'd rather build one than pay $400 for a brand new one to have it go to crap on me like so many others I have read about.  Don't thread crap either please, if you have the information I'm seeking than post, otherwise leave your opinions in another thread.
Thanks.

Pretty much the only things you can buy separately are the wireless card for the controllers, case, and heatsinks.  The DVD drive and Mobo must be bought together.

No.  All you need is the dvd drive key from the mobo then flash it onto the dvd drive you want to use.

Hello,

No offense but exactly HOW much success did you have on that project? I'd say that at this stage your chance of success is around 0% or worse. There are encryption keys involved here and nothing has truely been cracked/broken. All taht is possible at this stage is to play back nearly 100% identical backups.

Cheers

Thanks for the help guys.  ewok...  I was talking about my success rates piecing together the orig. xbox's...  And that was VERY easy.  As far as the 360 build.  I haven't bought anything.  And now I know I will need to get a married dvd and mobo.  What other parts are there?  The Ring of Lights, the power brick...  What else will I need?

Listen okay....You can build a billion xbox 360's as long as the mobo and dvd drives match you can mix and match any other parts you want.  Use a case from johnny's 360 and a fan from bobby's and the rf board off Victoria's but she might be mad she cant play with her controllers any more.  Go down the block and grab mikes hard drive....and jimmy's mobo but dont forget to get his dvd drive too though cause if you mix the mobo with Danny's dvd drive it will not work.

Sorry, I thought you were going to get a GPU, a chipset, a CPU, etc or some type of generic PC motherboard and try to build this....if you get a 360 board and DVD drive (with matching keys) then you're about 90% of the way already.

So basically if I am building my own case all I need is a Mobo w/matching DVD-Rom, an R/F board, the power brick, and an ROL diffuser?
