Xbox360 Spits Disks Out (tray Wont Stay Closed With Disk In)
« on: August 17, 2006, 08:45:00 AM »

Figured it out. I guess one of my friends knocked it over when I had lent it to him. I took the thing apart, and played with the DVD drive for a while, reseating the ribbon cables and such, to no avail. I looked at the top of the dvd reader tray and the magnet from the center of the drive (spindle) broke off, and got stuck to the lid. I put a thin layer of gorilla glue to the magnet, and pushed it back into the spindle. Voilla'! It works again.

Thanks a million for starting this thread! smile.gif My 360 had exactly the same problem, and I just could figure out what the **** went wrong... after reading this though, I located the problem in like 5 seconds. It's a good thing there's more experienced people out there than me... tongue.gif But hey, I'm learning, right? smile.gif Thank you microsoft for increasing my technical know-how... or something... laugh.gif

this is common with the hitachi lg drives , and it deednt be knocked out or something to happen , it might happen earlier if you used to play a crappy cheap dvd's on it , that makes it make high noise while spinning

This is going to be a another major problem fro the 360. I have seen 5 of these in the last month. In the 8+ years of fixing PS2 and Xbox's (PS one didn't have a magnet) I have never seen this happen before. I have seen fools destroy there PS2 motor and the magnet will still be attached to the spindle!

BenQ-Has problems with GTA4 backups
New Philips-Can't be hacked...god can't we just get a drive that works?

Hey, I just finished this fix and took some pictures.  I'll edited them to be more helpful and post them shortly.  It's pretty unnecessary - it's a very easy fix.  But if you want they will be here in a day or so...

It's not a really common thing with Hitachi drives but it does happen from time to time. I've probably repaired half a dozen with this fault. I'd say that Samsung tray sticking is a real problem.

A good strong super glue should ensure it never pops out again.
