« on: August 09, 2006, 12:01:00 AM »

I've tried searching, but all I see is people saying no you can't upgrade bla bla bla, but no one says why...

What is the reason?

For a drive to be considered valid it must have the 'Plain text hard disk info' and MS logo PNG. If these elements do not exist then no HDD is detected.

The 360's serial number is required when formatting a HDD.

That took maybe 2 minutes of searching...

edit: Fixed link

Also, on the HDD there is a section that lists HDD serial number, FW revision, sector count, secotr size, etc..., and if any of that information is invalid then the HDD won't be recognized by the 360. Also, this section is signed so it cannot be modified.
