Question About Errors And Working Parts..
« on: July 31, 2006, 03:16:00 PM »

I appologize if this is in the stickies or has been posted before, but I did not find it in the stickies and the search was not working.

The first 360 I bought 3-red-lighted on me about a week ago.  Seeing as it was out of warranty, and I have 2 other 360s, I took it appart.  I looked up the error code designation and it is an 0102 error.

When a 360 fails like this, is it the mobo that is no longer in operating condition, or is it the DVD drive?

Thanks for reading!

0102 is usually a motherboard problem, though it could technically be anything (0102 is basically the 360's way of sayin "Shit's all fucked up, and I don't know what in the hell it is")

Only thing you can really do is replace the thermal compound on the heatsinks and/or reflow the solder on the ram chips with a heat gun, if that doesn't do anything then the motherboard is probably dead.

Edit: moving to general hardware chat
