Increasing The 360 Rams
« on: July 30, 2006, 11:16:00 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has tried to increase the amount of physical RAM in the 360

Does it have the same limitations as the old XBox (ie. if you did manage to increase the amount of RAM, the ssytem still only saw the default amount)

unlike the Xbox 1, there are no extra pads to add more ram.

Replacing the chip with a larger one would have many complications (most notably being extra address lines), so at this point I would consider it impossible.

Anyways, even if this was successful, what's the point? Nothing would use the ram since its not programmed in, and no homebrew is currently running on a 360 (except for a select few).

do the select few require soldering something to something?

The xbox 360 isn't a pc. The games aren't designed to run better on better hardware. Why do you think many Xbox1 games run the same as they did on Xbox1 when played on the Xbox 360? I still get lag on fable when a lot is going on on-screen, etc.

Yes... difficult soldering of RAM chips.

G0t Ma4xx has the right idea.  It's pretty much impossible.. unless we get homebrew running, like Linux, that can take advantage of bigger RAM chips.

Yeah 512mb isn't very much these days but at least it's GDDR3 and not slow-ass crap. It's 8 times more ram than the Xbox 1, and it's also over ten times faster.

512 RAM is plenty when you consider the RAM in Xbox 1. It may not seem as much as a PC (I have 2gb), but it doesn't need to have any more.

All Xbox 360s are the same, therefore the games are tailor made for the system which means it doesnt need massive amounts of memory. Given the many different configs of PCs (OS, CPU, GPU, RAM) the games for them have to run on all types of pcs thus the reason why a PC has to be more powerful and why the 360 looks as if it is underpowered when it is infact extremely powerful for a console, given that xbox 1 has about 8 times less power than the 360.
