I Think I Just Fried My 360
« on: July 29, 2006, 09:33:00 PM »

I just took apart my 360 i bought last week. I took out the mobo and then put it back in. I put screws in it all, and I powered it up. It turned on then off. I have read about this happenin with the mobo shorting to the metal casing. So I took it out and put back in and powered it up and it worked fine. So I put more back together and powered up again. still fine. I forgot to take the power cord out the back and plugged in the DVD drive. It turned back on for some reason and the XBOX 360 logo came up as usual. I turned it off quickly, and then smelt something burning. I took the power out and connected the DVD drive. ITurned it back on, and it just flashes on and then turns off like its shorted again.

So I went outside and had a bit of a scream (a $650 piece of equipment just fried), and then went to my computer to see if anyone knows what might have happened. Im too bloody scared to touch the damn thing now.

Some one help me!!

Wait false alarm. I took the mobo out and powered it up while it was out of the metal casing and it powers up fine. Damn im so frigging releived. Now ive just gotta put it back IN the metal casing without it doing this again.

I wonder what part made that burning smell

I found what the buring smell was.... it was the damn DVD drive. Ive fried something in it. Bloody lucky I have the firmware and the key backed up about 5 times on my computer.

Anyone have a sammy drive they wanna sell me?

This was like reading a tragic story of a modder's turmoil. "Distraught and scared, with only a soldering iron and a prayer..."

Those damn DVD drives, what the hell are they good for anyways!
