I accidently knocked off the r5p1 resistor on my xbox 360 elite zephyr motherboard.  How should I fix this? And if i need to replace it, where would I purchase the replacement resistor? Thank you so much.

You never bridge where a Capacitor was installed.

Does this count for the ones under the CPU on the bottom of the board?...I believe I may have two bridge pads...how could i un bridge them...to be neutral at least?..

It counts for any Capacitor as they block DC and pass AC. Used as a Coupling Cap, bridging it would send DC into some place that should only have AC. Used as a Decoupling Cap, as in the case of most under the CPU there, what happens is some voltage line is shorted to Ground instead of filtering out the AC (ripple) like it should.

Use some solder wick to clean up the area, or just clean the iron tip and touch the spot, they should 'separate' if there are bridged with only solder.

I believe the copper under the solder mask is connecting them...some how i rubbed of the solder mask and now the two small pads where the caps sits or touching...I was thinking maybe I could pull copper out of one of the pads inside the board so it wont make contact anymore....it just two of them so it shouldnt hurt it in operation..I just dont wont them touching....that probaly what shorted out my xbox360....now it wont power on...it got to be a way I could separate these pads..

Thanks for your reply

IPB Image

Can these make a 3LR? They are "bulged" and look a bit rusty.

Something like this:

Btw, i can hear like a "electricity leak" (like a spark) while playing... Could these capacitors cause the problem?

Thank You for your help guys.  sad.gif

When Capacitors get like that they can cause all kinds of issues. They need to be replaced for sure if they are in that kind of shape, and make sure they didn't leak on the board, if they did then clean that thoroughly before replacing them, and then go from there with troubleshooting it.

You'll have to get one from another board if you want an exact value replacement for it, those things could be just about any value and only a datasheet from M$ will have that information, or someone with an expensive Cap checker and some free time.

The ADP1823 is a DC-DC Step Down Converter, and that Cap is on the EN2 line of it. One side of it goes to Ground, so it's just used as a DeCoupling Cap. If there is a short there it would cause the second channel of the chip to not start up, but with the Cap missing it shouldn't cause any issues.

I don't know if anyone else posted this but there is a list of parts available on this website. I believe the parts are for a Xenon motherboard. However, it doesn't seem to be fully complete. It does have a nice list of psu supply parts though.

That's under the GPU, not CPU.

FB2R1 needs to be replaced for sure. Get a replacement part from another 360 board, or just use a small jumper wire for it.

All of those Capacitors that are half knocked off the board there need to either be soldered back in place, if they can be, or just removed. It's not going to cause any issues with them missing. The ones that are already missing are not causing any issues either.

what is c4r68, r5r1, and r7v5? I found the capacitor that would go in c4r68 but may have lost the resistor. Is there anything I can replace them with from like radio shack. Are they needed. And would they cause an RROD. Not sure if there should be something on r7v5.

I got the RROD the other day. I used new thermal paste on the heat sinks and on the four spongy things on the underside. Still get RROD. Think I need those two parts back but not sure if they are the cause.

Previously had just placed the paste on the spongy pads and it worked for about a day and then went bad on me.

Advice and help greatly appreciated.

C5D6 - anyone know what it is? I got a 360 in for repair and it appears to have exploded or been removed from the board. i can't find a picture of any other 360 that is missing that particular cap.
