Swapping To 16:9?
« on: June 18, 2004, 08:32:00 PM »

Hey Guys,

Let me start off by saying that I have an old-ish TV that was super advanced for its time. I can connect the HD Kit to my TV (which happens to be 16:9). 90% of the games will play just great on it! However, if it tries to do a higher resolution (for example James Bond: Everything or Nothing) the TV will spazz out. I'd like to set it so that low resolution is as high as it will go. However, ALL of the MS stuff (msdasboard, load screen, etc.) will not display on my TV. I don't know what they are trying to do, but they won't show on my TV.

Okay, I can deal with all of that (I can go to the RCA cables for my James Bond fix). However, my question deals with XBMC. I cannot show anything but NTSC 4:3 or 480p 4:3. I'd like to swap that to do 480p 16:9.

Here's what I'm assuming is going wrong: the ms dashboard's setting drives everything else (possibly writes to the bios). However, since I can't adjust the ms dashboard, I'm "locked out" of trying to set 16:9 on xbmc.

Does anybody have a solution how I can manually either set my xbox or xbmc to 16:9?

Thanks!

I'm not an expert on tvs or anything. But why are you trying to connect a Hi Definition output to an older tv anyway? Why not use something that your tv can output 100% of the time?

RF?
RCA?

You could try connecting the xbox to a video player, and then the video player to the tv. I used to have to do this when I bought a playstation 1 for an old tv.

ALSO: I'm not at my xbox at the moment so I can't give you blind directions. But someone here could tell you what buttons to press to get to the display settings in the msdash?

You might be able to find something on google too. Some people out there like to draw diagrams of how menus are setup.
