Bricked Hitachis. Has Anyone Found A Solution?
« on: July 06, 2006, 10:06:00 AM »

As per the topic title. Has anyone found a method of fixing the non eject problem people are having with the non ejecting hitachis after doing the cross wire trick the wrong way round?
Like most people , mine ejects and closes no problems when it is in windows and the command is sent via the sata cable connected to the pc.
Its only when the drive is hooked back up to the 360 does the eject button fail to operate. The green power light in the ring of light flashes once , the dashboard syas drive opening, closing reading etc but the drive does not open at all.
If im right, when the cross wire trick is done the wrong way round, you connect 12v and the eject pin rather than ground and the eject pin. A lot of people assume this fries the motor. As stated above though , the motor still works in the drive when hooked up to windows.
Im assuming that as the power is still connected to the xbox motherboard, 12v has also been directed back the way as well and has made its way back to the chip on the motherbaord that controls the drive functions, in this case the close, eject pin.
Ive read that the xbox sends 3.3v to the drive to open the tray, and drops this to zero to close it. Im no electronic engineer , but i would imagine that there is a resistor on this trace that controls the voltage going to the drive, and the 12v sent to it has probably fried it.
Does anyone have enough knowledge of the 360 motherboard to single out this trace and maybe find the problem that im trying to describe.
Whoever could find this to fix it will probably be hailed as a mini celeb , by me especially.
In the meantime , we can get round the problem by keeping the two wires connected to the drive and doing the cross wire trick to put the drive in to mode b as the 360 boots. This way it reads the discs no problems as boots up as normal. The only prob is that you have to manual eject all the time to change discs and its not ideal having a couple of wires sticking through the case, especially when youve got a couple of curious kids going around (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
