Anyone Send An Opened 360 Back To Ms?
« on: June 28, 2006, 07:03:00 AM »

Just curious if anyone got MS to fix/replace a 360 that had been opened. Did you tell them over the phone it had been opened or just send it in and hope for the best? I know everyone is saying they wont touch an opened box, I was just wondering if anyone was able to get away with it

I sent in my 360 for repairs, and the "new" one I got back didn't have a warranty "MS" sticker.  I called, and a very nice lady told me that the returned consoles won't have warranty stickers, and that it wouldn't be a problem in the future if I needed to send it back.  She also told me that my warranty was extended until February (0.o).

My guess is that, if your console can slip through to where it actually gets worked on, they won't care, because all refurb units don't have the sticker, anyway.

What was even better about it is MS did not send me a refurb 360, they sent me a brand spanking new 360, with new shinny warranty sticker and all.  I (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif) you MS, LOL

Mine is toast as of today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  Been getting the red lights on and off since games froze up last week.  I have the Firmware hack...and have pretty much mangled the back of my console.  I'm sure MS doesn't want to see it sent back to them...Although, my warrenty sticker appears to be in tact.  I am going to be sending my console to oldschoolgamer.ca

If anything good comes of it, I will let you guys know!

How long does it take for them to repair/replace your 360 if you send it to them!?!?

Well when I first called because it was freezing and occasionaly getting 0102 they told me my console was no longer under warranty and I'd have to pay 140 bucks or whatever to repair it. So I opened it up and put the AS on the cpu's and mem and closed it up. It ran for about a day after that with no problems, then the following day it totally died, 0102 non stop, it just wont boot. So I call MS back to see what they'll say, I mention the red lights and the 0102 error and now all of the sudden they say my console IS under warranty and that they'll fix/replace it for free. I'm like "wtf??". So I didnt tell them I opened it, my return box is in the mail, I'm just hoping they wont notice or care. I put the MS sticker back on but its obvious its been taken off and opened. The point is, I never would have opened it if they had told me they'd fix it free in the FIRST place. Does anyone know if they do decide they're not going to repair it if they'll just automaitcally ship it back or will they call me first? I want an opportunity to argue with them before it gets sent back.

did you have some kind of foil crap on your heatsinks?  did you remove that first before putting on the AS?
