Overheating ?!
« Reply #15 on: June 28, 2006, 09:48:00 PM »

My NTSC 360 has just developed the same problem after 6 months of use.

No red lights but freezes after very little use, usually with graphical glitches on the screen.  This happens with or without the h.d.d..  Machine is out of warranty and MS want $200 AUS to fix it, plus I have to ship it to them at a cost to me.  Funny that they can quote and charge me this amount before they even know what is wrong with it.

Oh, I'm sure they already know what's wrong with it. If it hasn't flashed any lights at you yet, give it time it will. Also, the money they are charging to fix the 360 is some of the money they lost when building it and selling it to the consumer for less than what it actually cost them to build it. That's why for alot of us it worked great until after the warranty expired. Knowing that alot of us would not purchase the extended warranty. Gotta make that cash back somehow. Right?

Do the 12v mod. This way you know it's working at the highest setting....

Let's just say it is the fan speed control. If we did the 12v fan mod and made the fans go at that high setting. Wouldn't the motherboard still throw us the flashing lights because it senses the bad fan speed controller and not the actual speed the fans are running at? Just a thought. blink.gif

Try this:

-remove the heatsink on the gpu
-start the 360
-you gonna get a 2 red light blinking if u get a 3 red light blinking wait a little bit u gonna get a 2 red lights (overheating)
-turn off the 360
-replace the heatsink
-turn on the 360
-you should now have the 360 boot logo
-if it doesnt work try to a litlle pression on the heatsink and powerup the 360
