i reanimated this biatch

IPB Image
i've let the gpu cool down, and i ve done a 12V fan mod on the gpu heatsink

video here (right click, save to)
now it runs fine
hope it will go that way for long time  happy.gif

I dunno about y'all but I'm not too happy with the configuration of the Engineering's placement of the gpu underneath the dvd drive.

Yeah, yeah , yeah, the sleek form and design is all asthetic eye pleasing form. On the Outside!

Functionality and focus on dependability in the engineers design in my 20/20 hindsight would of been nicer. But, alas we judge everything by its shape and skin instead.  sad.gif

I'm a big proponent of brand X my gamertag is mtsr, I bought the two year warranty. Looks like when it runs out I'll be doing some cooling mod. That is, if my 360 isn't refurbished beyond salvage.

One other thing, the manual states not to blow out the 360 with compressed air (may damage components), unlike the PC I can't open it up without voiding the wararanty to do so safely.

Getting a similar problem.  Moved house and my 360 started freezing after a few hours play.  Then it started freezing at the start of a game, and eventually 3 red rings with 0102.

The GPU is getting so incredibly hot, the heatsink can barely be touched.  This is some issue not related to cooling in my opinion, i have put some artic silver on, but the heatsink is roasting so obviously the heat transfer is working fine, it's either just not dissipating enough (imo unlikely) or for some reason the GPU is creating huge amounts more heat than it used to.

I would like to try slapping a fan on top like in the picture, would be nice to know where to hook the 12v to.

The only anomaly i have noticed is when cleaning the gpu, one of the small chips right next to the main cpu die had the thermal wax stuff down one side of it.  I tried to clean it off best i could but it is very difficult, presume the wax is not conductive but maybe it is causing some sort of a short? (stabbing in the dark here).

Thanks
