Live! Update To Include Dvd --> Hd Up Conversion?

One of the things listed as a feature of the new Live! update is "DVD player outputs at native resolution over VGA connection" Does that mean the native resolution of the XBOX360? I must me reading this wrong.

Is the upscaling decent? Or does it look bad? I don't know if I should get an up converting DVD player or a VGA cable for the 360. I would have to get a VGA to HDMI cable in order for my setup to work.

I am surprisingly very pleased with the upscaled video quality.  PLus, it looks like the 'washed out' vga problem that plagued the 360 is gone too.  So upscaled 360 vga dvd playback is the way to go.

Is upscaling also done over High-def component component video?

DVD movie quality was pretty poor before the update, haven't had opportunity to try it since the update, how is the quality now?

Its only for VGA.  It looks much much better!

I never had any problems with the colors being washed out, and i cant tell any difference in that area.

it looks good over component to. upscaling over 720p can be done with DVD. I'd hope so at least....game are 720p so why not DVD. Console has enough power to do it over component. Looks good to me.

it DOES NOT upconvert to 720p or 1080i over component cables. my opinion, having a upscaling dvd player, the video quality is atrocious. washed out and disgustingly grainy.  the reason game can be played in HD is becasue thats what they were sold as, or their licence agreed to. movies on the other are not to be played in any recordable format in any higher resolution then they are sold as. (480p) that is why you will have to bust your balls to find a dvd player that played dvds in HD over component. they sell them all the time with hdmi, ebcause you cant copy it.  (now i know some spec slut is going to come and and pick apart what i just just said, and that fine  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)   but i hope you all understand what im saying. if you need more info fire away! ill try to explain more.

edit, forget the spec slut, the grammar police needs to send my ass to jail... time for bed.. hell

I got a Samsung DVD-HD850 which upscales over HDMI. BUT!! when you enter the region hack it also allows you to view upscaling over component! Pretty cool. It's also cheap and looks cool.

I still prefer watching DVDs on my Oppo Upscaling DVD player that can output via DVI or HDMI.

It looks MUCH better than the 360s video playback, but then again, I didn't buy the 360 to watch movies.

One thing to remember is that most upscaling DVD players use a upscaling chip, so even with all the power in the world, if the 360 does not have a dedicated upscaling chip, it will not compare to upscaling dvd players that were designed and ment to upscale.
