Is This The End.......
« on: June 05, 2006, 03:46:00 PM »

Ok so Im playing Halo 2 on lockout when my 360 locks up. Np , i reboot and it was fine. A couple of hours later, still playing Halo, same map same problem. Now i check the disk, clean it and the DvD Lense. Reboot, get into Halo again, different map same problem........got frustrated and said fuck it. I watched a movie in the 360 about 45 min into the movie it locks up. Being pissed i went to bed.

I have a W/C box (check it out thru my link). Today i checked the 360 out to find the same problem, just happens sooner. Checked here for the codes. I started the 360 then something new happened, a black screen with the error code E79. This was the first and last time I got this screen. I then did the test from here. I came up with the flashin error code of 1003. Ive searched here for a code 1003, but didnt come up with anything, this being said anyone know what the hell this is.

Ive check my coolin tower, all is ok there, i have flow thru out the system. Ive checked the waterblocks and EVEN reapplied AS5 to the GPU and the CPU.

Looks like Im pretty much FUCKED as this box is fully modded and warranty is null and VOID. Even worst, I wont be able to get my Halo fix!

So i come to my fellow Modders for some help.

Well if it's not mentioned in the error code topic then I've never heard of it.

but ANY trouble shooting is always isolating the problem...

If you have a friend with a 360 this would be ideal....

Remove the hard drive see if the problem happens (you said it locked up on DVD playback so test that)... if the problem still exists you can rule out the HDD... then test the Powersupply, if you have a friend with a console try his powersupply. Try your console in a different house (maybe dirty power is locking up your console). If you can rule out the PSU

now that we have DVD drive firmware tools you can swap out DVD drives... if you have a friend that will let you re-flash his drive, try a different drive in your console... alternatively try your drive in his console and see if his console starts acting up...

If checking the DVD drive doesn't solve the problem then the problem is obviously in the mobo itself... Pick up a used mobo... most of the time mobo problems can't be fixed yourself...

Also, since it's a WC'ed box, (this may be too obvious, idk), but make sure it didn't leak anywhere on the board.

Most lockup issues I've seen are because of one of two reasons, overheating, or an issue wit the ram.

If your WC setup is working like it should, then heat shouldn't be a problem, so I'd look into making sure your ram chips are in good shape (not overheating as well).

I've heard of a few cases of reflowing the solder on the ram chips fixing some boxes, as there is occasionally a cold solder joint, or whatever (jeez, MS can't even solder right...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) )

From what I've seen around here, if it's a motherboard issue, and cooling and/or reflowing the solder on the ram chips doesn't fix it, (and it's not something obviously blown on the mobo) it's probably dead

Check your power supply out. See if the led on it is red. If so, you may need a new unit. Also, give your console a good slap. This jars the orientation switch that can sometimes lead to a non-booting console.

I've had absolutely no problem with my first watercooled xbox 360. It ran 100% flawless, as have all my other 360's for that matter. Flawless even with out watercooling. Once I jacked up the fan speeds on my 360's to about as loud as the CD-ROM is while spinning it provides the most adequate cooling without overdoing it and spending a hell of ALOT of money on unneeded cooling measures. Not that I'm downing watercooling but it is most definitely not for the faint of heart or people with skim pockets.

The only thing that I can think of for this problem is

1.  Liquid leaked onto the board
2.  Memory overheated due to fan's running at sloooow speeds due to the cpu being cooled enough.
or
3.  CPU or GPU waterblocks were seated too tight creating a bent board and over time the board bent and a trace or traces...were split or stuff lost connections.

Honistly I dont know how to explain this because a watercooled box should not have any heat related error issues.

Ive checked for water traces on the MB and Im sure its not that.

The power brick is ok and lites up fine.

Ive tried just about everything i can think of to cure the problem but it looks like its DOA.

I still havent heard anything on the code that it flashes, which is 1003.

I havent called back to MYXBOX since i ran in to the idiot operator. She tried telling me that there are no codes that the 360 flashes to find out what wrong with it. I explained how i got it and she still argued the fact.

The thing that pisses me off more than anything is the fact that it acted this way several days after that FUCKED up patch MS put out. Now Im not one to complain about money as you can see my WC set up isnt cheap. MS is offering to fix 360s for $129. You think theyd look at this one?

Id pay  XE or GotMax to look @ it but Id have to send the cooling tower with it! LOL

Oh well, Im lookin on ebay for a MB so if anyone would like to help a brotha out......

I'd be glad to take a look at it for you.  You wouldn't have to send the tower since I have a pump and radiator over here that i can just temp drop in there even if it is outside the case.  Just snip the lines and send her over.  I wouldn't promise anything though.  I also would remember that shipping here and then shipping back will set you back a few $$$ and if I don't fix it then that would be a waste of money on shipping alone.
