Won't the wireless headset just work the same as the controllers??  huh.gif There's no need for another dongle, the Xbox360 has built in wireless support.

It uses F1 style Paddle Shifters. Actually a lot of high end sports cars now use that instead of the old style shift knob. It's a lot more suiting for the type of driving you'll be doing in games like Forza where a lot of the cars use that type of shifter in real life.

Mini:

Corvette:

Lexus:

Ferrari:

VW:

Most of those are just tiptronic contol, (Ferraris, BMWs, F1 Racers etc are REAL manuals) but that's pretty much what we got with the old style racing wheel shifters anyway, I think the paddles are a more true to life way to impliment it. Almost none of the sticks you drive in game use a simple up/down lever for shifting, A good number of them use paddles though.

Thoughts:

1. A USB HD-DVD has the possibility of being used on a PC, as long as someone writes the correct software. If MS are as half as smart as I think they are, they'll release it with PC drivers too.

2. If the HD-DVD is SATA, then what are the possibilities of using it in place of the standard DVD drive? I know there's an encryption key to stop you from using another 360 DVD, but what if there's no encryption key at all? Will it just ignore it?

3. Pricing is key here - if #1 happens for PC owners, you could see a BIG takeup with the price being forced down for volume sales.

I'm fuming mad right now.  One of the biggest complaints has been HDMI support, and MS has even hinted in interviews that they heard us and were going to do something.  Since the 360 only has analog outs, the logical solution was the HD-DVD drive.  Looks like we've been screwed again.   I was all psyched for the HD drive, but fuck that.  I'm not watching HD-DVDs in analog.  grr.gif

1. That would be cool, I hope they do it, but somehow I doubt they will, if anything I'd say you'd see custom drivers from the scene before you see MS support

2. I'd guess the possibilities are next to nothing, the HD-DVD wont be locked down at all because it's generic replaceable hardware. If the internal DVD drive can be swapped out with a drive that doesn't have a key then we should be able to replace it with any PC Sata drive... which we can't. Also the drivers for controlling something like that through USB are different then the ones to control it through SATA. We also don't know if there is any other hardware in there doing something other then just USB to SATA adaption

3. If anything I would say the low pricing would PREVENT #1 from happening. MS doesn't need to move HD-DVD units, but they need to price it such that a 360+HD-DVD is cheaper then a PS3. to do this they might price it so low that they're making next to nothing for profit (at that point it's just a tool to match features). If it IS priced that way then they wont want to move them and wouldn't want to release it for PC because it would undercut other PC drive manufacturers at a price they can't compete at.

My guess is they'll drop the 360's price by $50 and the HD-DVD drive will sell for $150ish That will make the price of the Premium+HD-DVD = Core PS3

Absolutely agree with you 100%.  I mean how could they not at least provide the option for hdmi/digital interface.  You cannot tell me it's not possible even with the analog outs on the 360. The chipset definately can handle this.  MS is a bunch of idiots to brag about true "hi def" and give gamers an analog option.  God what an oxy-moron.  I will just have to buy a stand alone hd dvd player with that option since MS can't pull thre head out of their ass and give us this choice.  I mean sure, some gamers probably don't give a rats ass.  Me on the other hand, I want to experience all the highest fideltiy I can with the current state of technolgy, is that so wrong?  Good move MS.  Hell I might even pick up a ps3, at least those dummies said " Hey, digital all the way baby"

The steering wheel looks sweet, though I echo the thoughts about the shifter....

I've been hoping for real shifter support from games and hardware developers for a while, promised by Act Labs way back when, never had good software support. I would love a system witha  clutch, with realistic feel to the gates, and with software consequences (slipping clutch, grinding gears, etc). Was hoping this for a nice vintage racer (prefer real sports cars that fit all the original defs - real wheel drive, 2 seater only, manual transmission). Paddles feel cheap, even in a car. One day, I hope to be driving a 50-60's era British sports car on my console with a proper control.....but i'm probably so far in the minority that that is just a dream.

I'll settle for paddles on the console just because the software support mentioned above would be a nightmare, and as Act Labs put it before they stopped making those sticks 'nobody knows how to drive stick correctly anymore'. Toe and Heel.

As for a real car, I''l NEVER give up stick for one reason - I can completly tear down the puppy and rebuild it.

Yeah, but I'll be first in line for the steering wheel....actually the whole list of upcoming features had my internal voice saying "The wife is gonna kill me"

Well the $600 flavor is the only one with HDMI.

I think MS will make an HDMI cable for the 360, there is plenty of power to push an analog -> digital conversion

i bet there will be a little dongle that will plug into the communicator port like the datel headset.

if the headset has a 30ft range like they say it does(pretty impressive) then it will go straight to the 360.

an update might allow this feature and those four little led's on it might be the controller YOU assign it to on the dashboard biggrin.gif:D:D

I don't know why everyone is so fueled over a lack of HDMI.  I personally don't think it does anything special beyond bringing digital interface to the market (which may reduce interference).  It costs a hell of a lot more to licence and the cables are as much, if not more than optical.  On top of that, they don't even have the spec worked out fully in regards to HDCP.  Seriously, I prefer the component connections.  Then I don't feel like Hollywood is looking over my shoulder all the time.  I just make sure that there is minimal interference and my contacts are clean.  Can someone capable explain something that I am apparently missing?

As for the rest of the news... That steering wheel is HOT.  I'm so glad they decided to go wireless.  The headset will be a must have as well.  The decision to go proprietary WUSB is paying off in spades.  And to answer the question above, WUSB can connect upto 256 devices (I think, someone confirm) so the headset doesn't need a dongle.  The memory card is cool, but I would have preferred the announcement of a 100Gb HDD.  Ah well, there's always next E3! laugh.gif

Does anyone know if the camera is wireless?  I want to know if I can stick it anywhere during gameplay.  I sit pretty far away from my TV and I don't want people seeing my entire (messy) room on Live.  I'd love for this to come in at $40, but I'm sure it will be upwards of $80, especially if it's wireless.

All around great news.  We just need MSRPs and I'm happy.
