Ok, I'll be honest, Datel did a great job with this.
A lot of people were waiting for a USB adapter to buy a HD transfer kit. Now they have what they wanted.
I really did not like what Ava did when they basically just copied 360SATA's PCB design and resold it. That was just cloning, in my opinion. They didn't really add any new features, so they really didn't even need to come up with such a product.
At least the Datel has new features that the PCBs do not have, I will give that to them.
The only problem I see with this is the way your 360 has to be close to your PC. An external adapter that used USB, sort of like a docking station, would have been a lot nicer.
To me, any of these adapters should never be connected to the 360 itself. When I want to transfer data, I have to lug the entire console over to my computer. That means disconnecting the power cable, disconnecting the A/V cable, and connecting the USB cable. A docking station could always be plugged into the computer, which would make loads more sense, considering that's the only thing you would use it for. Then, all I have to do is unplug the hard drive from the 360. Loads eaasier in my eyes.
This product is great for noobs, but if you really want to be noobtacular, you have to have a docking station. What you are paying for with this is convenience. A dock would be better than a console addon, I'm sure many of you will agree.
I have a very good feeling that this won't be the last we see of these HD transfer kits. I'm sure Team 360SATA will introduce a new product, and then Ava and Datel will probably just clone that.
Regardless, I buy my products based on a convenience vs. price comparison.
If I have to pay double for a product that keeps my case closed, then I won't buy it. My case is open all the time, so the 360SATA would work perfect for me, I don't need to pay extra for something I don't need.
As of now, if you don't have SATA, I guess Datel is right for you. But I would still be waiting to see what 360SATA has in mind....
