Datel XSATA - SATA-to-USB device to connect Xbox 360 HD on PC

I am surprised no one has mentioned any of this but:

Wireless USB anyone?

Connect the USB to act as an external drive to a Linksys WRT54G router (or similar model). Then it can be accessed wirelessly as mapped as a samba share on your computer.

Upload movies etc onto the xbox 360 HD, better playback ... IN HD! smile.gif

A new XSATA that has a network port, i.e. inbuilt slim OS to support a linux drive. Double the price but make it much more efficient because basically, no one has PC near XBOX.

Real shame Xbox360 doesnt support linux, it would be the easiest thing to use and it would save them a lot of money when the hacker come out to play.

So what all will this let noobs, like myself, do??? can we transfer mp3's, videos, and pics or is it limited to just dumping gamesaves etc..... also won't this be a way of scamming gamerpoints???

I was thinking the same thing, can you download 100% save games from loads of different games to illegitimately boost gamerscore?

i think this is a great idea!  I wonder if it works with the 360 off - (prob. not) and when it on - if the 360 and the pc can read and write at the same time.  I think it will be able to - because of the xbox 360's special writing features (a long time ago MS said if the the HD was removed during a file write - that the file wouldnt be corrupt, because it writes the file first then adds the location of the file to the list of files - not the other way around as in your computer computers. - the half written file gets treated as free space when the HD is put back.)

I looked at the best buy website - not there.

Also - It would have been nice if the light was green.  I have never understood why people change the Led's to blue in the controllers and on the power rings (of both the xbox and the 360).  Red i can understand (at least on the original black xbox), but blue just doesnt go with the xbox.  Green goes best with it.

speaking about colors - why the hell is the 360 white?  black is much cooler and sleeker. - that new black replacement case looks sweet.  Hmm... the black case might look good with the blue - but i think it would be better with green as well.

But this could just be my mild OCD coming into play.

keep in mind that i have nothing against blue LED's - i have many of them in many places - even in my car.  i just dont think they match well with the 360 (or the xbox)

This is great. I just started to run out of room on my hdd so this will be a nice addition. But I think I'll wait a couple of weeks to read some reviews here before pulling the trigger.

Now off to read how to be able to extract the trailers from the hdd and make them playable on a standard PC.

What I'm not 100% clear on is that does the 360 need to be on for this new dock to function? Or is this adaptor able to grab power from the PC's USB port?

The only good Ipod is a broken black ipod.  i hate ipods - but they dont look half bad when they are black - like the nano.

oh and XCM has that one prototype they showed us - so i think 2-3 months

Awesome. I'll probably buy one of these once they make a green one or drop the price a little. I just saw the memory card transfer kit at best buy while I was picking up the new plantronics headset.

Heh. They could have made it so you can deatch the thing and seperate it from your 360!!!!

I have got my 360 ANWYHERE near the PC.

Who knows if it will even work with Xplorer360???

Being part of the first homebrew adapter...I'm bound to say this...but this really is my personal opinion.

Adam

EDIT; Oh wait it says on the box - "works with xplorer 360". Im surprised this has been allowed.

Same here, my 360 is not near my PC so i guess this wont work for me unless I unplug everything and move to PC   sleep.gif

So if i get this right, this device is completely plug and play?  I just plug into my usb 2.0 on my pc and xplorer360 is going to recognize the drive?

so with this device i can transfer my live profile with all its saved games to another xbox 360 without the need of the pricey $40.00 MS memory card??? I prefer to pay 40 bucks on this than on a 64 mb memory unit.

You can download finished gamesaves, and unfortunately some will unlock undeserved achievements. Full Auto and Burnout for example will award the user almost every achievement just by racing once.

The trailers are stored in a PIRS archive within /partition3/content/000000000000000/. Extract them with Xplorer360 and then extract the hdwmv file from the PIRS file with wxPirs.

Exactly, xplorer will recognize the harddrive with out any special drivers. (Memory Unit however needs special drivers!)

Yes, you can. Each profile is stored in a directory on the hdd. Different to each user, due to unique profile id's. Copy this entire directory structure to the destination hard drive and your good to go.

MS really should have implimented USB transfer cable directly IN the HDD housing. If I bought this I would take apart my HDD and squeeze it right in the housing.. I mean they didn't encrypt or change the way the data travels.

As for the xbox moving thing, just connect this to the bottom of the drive and then you just need to power the HDD, for example using the 360SATA board would work to supply power from a 5V adapter, USB port or the internal HDD connectors.. Datel should have included an adapter like this to pull power from the USB port to power the HDD.. One for data transmission, one for powering the drive (like seen in some of the manual mods using SATA to USB adapters) Easy mod if you got a spare USB female port and some wires.
