100GB Hard Drive Rumor False-- Posted by XanTium on March 14 00:22 EST
There's been http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2951837 today on the internet that the US Xbox 360 Premium Pack would, starting April, include a 100GB HD instead of the current 20GB. I didn't post it here 'cause it didn't sound very realistic and it's now been officially denied by Microsoft via the http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2006/03/13/533648.aspx:

To answer this rumor getting a lot of steam: during April, will Xbox 360 will come bundled with a 100 gig hard drive? No. Not true. False. Here's the official statement:
"We haven't announced any additional hard drives for the Xbox 360 beyond the 20GB version available today."

Like I said in the other thread...

Any rational person should've known that this was complete and utter bullsh*t.

Kudos to the gamerscore blog for squashing this inane rumor quickly.

Awfully unusual for them to comment with anything other than "MS does not comment on rumors or speculation".

They also say that they hadn't announced the drive rather than deny any liklihood of it ever eventuating. Information does leak a lot.

Regardless, it sounds highly unlikely. They'd much rather you had a PC running Vista or XPMC to store all your stuff on.

actually, they say:

No. Not true. False.

The blog is owned by MS employees, so I'd guess they know.

That's the PR / marketing team sentence.

kinda good this got killed now before it got out of control...
like MS would just throw a ~$250.00 item into a package that they already lose a chunk of cash on with each sale

100gig is a lot to just give away, i would've called bull straight away, if i'd known about it.

We all know there is a bigger one coming though, no doubt, just no idea how big.

IMO, 40GB or 80GB will probably be the next size released, and we'll pay for it.
And with the lack of real content, or at least good content, available for download, there is not enough demand for a larger HDD yet (except for the fact that we just like to say "I have the BIGGEST HDD available" tongue.gif )

Seems in-line to me.  Today we are paying $99.99 for a 20GB hdd.  Comparing a run-of-the-mill 2.5HDD and one specifically for the 360 is not very realistic.

most likely if a bigger drive comes it will just be sold seperately and the premium pack will still have 20gb to avoid additional cost... until the point comes when bigger drives are more cost effective than the 20gbs... like when xbox1 had 10gb instead of 8gb (i know you couldn't officially use the extra space but then there was no real need officially)

LOL, Glad its a fake, but ....

After reading the thread on Xbox.com I was amazed to see how many people were willing to drop and break their system to take it back and exchange for one with the bigger drive.

Theres been 6 diffrent versions of the original Xbox all with changing hardware, Did anyone complain when they went to the Focus GPU or the cheaper memory in the 1.6b ?

Its only going to be a matter of time until someone figures out how to replace the 20Gb with a one of your own.

2.5" 100GB SATA HDD

http://www.newegg.co...rice=&maxPrice=

Newegg only carries 2 drives like this 1 is $145 and the other is $215... they're not cheap.

Im not stating this as true but a gamestop rep said their goal is to release a 40-60-80 gig hdd down the line.  Are these really needed....pre modding?
