I have the Heitachi drive (launch PAL Xbox 360) which is VERY noisy.

Pretty scary thought if the Samsung drive is louder!!!

I posted a pic of this months ago, I love how the news isn't new until someone else says it. I can't find the post, but I posted it on January 23rd.

I don't get how alot of people end up getting scratched 360 discs... Even if you guys aren't moving or accidentally bumping your 360's.(or maybe the 360 isn't situated on a level surface?)

I haven't ever yet gotten a scratched disc in my two 360's for the last 4 months(and my surface's for my 360's aren't even totally level, but almost). Tho both my two 360's had Hitachi drives. Ofcourse my one 360 died after the march update(while the other 360 survived).

So now I got a new 360 to replace the dead one, and now I've got two different drives. One Samsung and one Hitachi.

I guess only time will tell now if the Samsung is really such an evil disc scratcher..

And for the record. My samsung drive sounds quieter than my previous Hitachi drive.

Same here, have never ever got my disc scratch.
Dont really know its gonna happen if you dont move your Xbox360 or other console. I have never got that problem, and hope not having it in future. Sorry to everyone that have this problem.
But hehe its kinda not MS fault that ppl dont read instruction tongue.gif

I have a Hitachi and it is extremely loud - enough so that it distracts from playing.

Mine's Hitachi and I only notice it when I pause a game... Then again, I'm crowd-deaf so I can't hear anything when music is playing anyway.  I'd say it's loud by computer standards.

you'd actually get credit for it if you submitted it as news instead of just posting it in the forum and hoping someone picks up on it and submits it for you.

has any one had the chance to switch the drives with each other (2 360's) and see if the box will still work?  Or are they tied to each other?...

i'll check what mine is when i get home but i just got mine friday, it had the warning sticker on it and it has the silver bezel.

mine is fairly quiet, the system fans are louder than the dvd is..

but i already got 1 "this disk must be used in an xbox360 console"  error so.. i freaked when i saw that.. but it only has happened once.. so hopefully not again..

heatwise  sheesh that bad boy gets hot out the back of the unit.

instead of just a bloody warning, why don't they throw in some cheap padding to prevent scratching when the system is tilted?!
you don't even have to move the system very much to scratch a disc. i know some people will say that it's your own fault for moving it while it's playing, but stupid things do happen and you can't always remember to tell new guys to not touch it or check it out while it's running..

We have two with the samsung (no holes in tray) and one euro launch unit with the hitachi (holes) and the hitachi is considerably louder just like llamma concluded here months after we already knew this.

The samsung is a hiss where the hitachi has a distinct rawwwrr to it.

Now, that said, people should compare them in both vertical and horizontal position since to me, both are louder in vertical (the unit rumbles more) than in horizontal, for whatever reason.

Does an imbalance in the labeling or molding of the disc travel so much faster down toward gravity than it does up that causes this rumble? Or is it infact the more stable position and wider spread of the weight of the unit in horiz.
