I put D-Skins on all of my games. A small investment for $60 games.

Try testing your xbox360 with a blank cd or some crappy dvd disk. If the 360 still scratches, slap on some d-skins and see what you can do at the game store about the game disk that was scratched.

The scratches only occur in 360 games due to the fact that it makes use of the 12x dvd rom and can only happen when the console is moved. Currently xbox is not repairing anymore consoles that "scratch discs" Nor do they replace the games. this is due to the fact that the service center has determined that this is user error.

Totally untrue. According to llamma.com...

I think we should also acknowledge that some users are experiencing scratched   discs without moving their console.  We have received some direct feedback  from at least two people. I imagine the vast majority are due to   moving the console but the mechanics of the problem is the same.  The disc   spins very close to the pickup and the tray does not prevent the disc from   reaching the laser pickup.  If you are experiencing scratched discs without   moving your console you should contact 1-800-4MYXBOX for warranty support from   MS.

...and me, myself, also had this problem (scratched disc without movement) with my first console. As llamma.com states, with a twitch of common sense you should know not to move your console while the drive is in use. I am quite anal about all of of my optical media, 'tronics, etc, so I know this to be a problem with the console itself. Unfortunately, I seem to be one of the few that has had this problem, but the fact remains, it is still a very real problem (even if for only a small % of users).

In the last week, March 3rd to be exact, I was issued a free copy of PGR3, due to my first console scratching the disc beyond repair (Feb 16th). While I will concur that most of the "scratched disc" errors are due to user error, it is totally incorrect to say that ALL "scratched disc" errors were/are due to user error.

edit: typo's
